There have been moments when I look at the circumstances surrounding people's success or failure, and I openly say that this person is the architect of his own downfall.
That's the fact.
I like when people take responsibility for the things they face. I'm all about that life too. I won't sit back to blame anyone if something isn't going right in my life.
However, just for tonight, I've really got to say that there are times when the circumstances around us which are beyond our direct control could play parts in the results we get.
I've seen that happen repeatedly and it's not just something that's faced by my Countrymen.
Over the last couple of weeks, when I jump on meetings with some of my colleagues from other part of the world, I hear them complain about internet connectivity issues they are facing. They also talk about not having power supply for a few hours on a particular day.
When I hear them and notice that this is an issue they face once in a blue moon when compared to the ones we face over here in Nigeria, it becomes really burdensome because what people in other part of the world enjoy are actually the things that has become too much of a luxury for us to enjoy over here.
Take for an example;
- Electricity scarcity has been a recurring one in Nigeria. It has been that way for too long. That's exactly why I had to spend a fortune to install solar energy.
High inflation rate is wrecking our currency, skyrocketing the price level of goods and services, and making it hard for an average Nigeria to financially satisfy his basic needs and wants.
The high rate of corrupt practices going on in this part of the world has led to situations where targeted extortions is being carried out by our uniformed institutions on young folks.
This is just a snippet of the things which basically make each day a struggle for those in this part of the world.
With all that going on, we still have to manage what we have and try to build our finances. We still have to do the genuine things we do in an attempt to build wealth, learn the latest trends, and become people who can take on the financial responsibilities that come our way.
I see the struggle we have to face and I know it's not just a Nigeria thing. If I'm to be diplomatic in this post, I will say that every country has its challenges.
However, I'm a Nigerian living in Nigeria. So, this post is mostly focused on Nigeria.
Sadly, I don't have the strength to dig deep enough into this topic.
That's because I've been on medication since last week Friday. I'm more focused on my recovery at this moment. Another reason I wouldn't want to take a deep dive into that is because I'm trying not to dwell too much on uninspiring things.
With that said, I give a big shout-out to folks who try their best to live a decent life and build genuine wealth regardless of the circumstances that negatively affect their efforts.
