How can life be considered a natural right if as a species, we do not protect it? (Week 11-Response)

I believe that healthcare should be considered a basic human right. Freedom is usually considered a human right, but how can someone be free to enjoy the world around them if their bodies are not well enough for that? I think that in order to be able to truly have freedom, people need to have the right to be well, without having to become impoverished to be so. In America, healthcare is extremely expensive. If you have a chronic or genetic illness, especially if you were born with it, you better have wealthy parents and then find yourself a high paying job, or otherwise you will waste away from your condition. Health insurance is extremely expensive and usually not helpful, and even with it, going to the doctor or hospital is still very expensive. Since people can profit from illness in the United States, a thing that should never be possible, there is a significant motivation for hospitals to treat you in the least efficient method possible, often with multiple referrals and tests before eventually settling on a solution that you told them up front was the case. Tangent about United States medical care aside, people should have the right to healthcare. Not having this right increases the significant divide between classes, since those who can afford healthcare are much more able to continue working and earning, whereas those who can’t, must rely on family or stop working entirely. Both of these scenarios widen the gap between classes and make it much more permanent. This is not acceptable. Humanity has the resources to make healthcare available to everyone who needs it. The only thing stopping us from doing so is greed. So, as a species, let us please set aside our greed for a while, and provide easy and effective access to healthcare for everyone. As asked by @lavender22, Should healthcare be considered a basic right?
