Folorunsho Alakija, the executive vice chairman of FAMFA Oil Limited and the Managing Director of Rose of Sharon Group, was previously the wealthiest black woman in the world before being dethroned by media mogul Oprah Winfrey.

Folorunsho Alakija was born in the Ikorodu district of Lagos State, Nigeria, on July 15, 1951. Her father is a successful businessman with multiple spouses and children (she actually has 51 siblings).

She was sent to Dinorben School for Girls in Harfodunos Hall, Llangernyw, Wales, as a young girl for her elementary school education. She returned to the country for her high school education before continuing her schooling in London (at Pitman's Central College, London) for her secretarial studies.

She decided to pursue a degree in Design Designing at the American College in London and the Central School of Fashion before returning to Nigeria since she was interested in fashion. So there was "fashion money" before there was "oil money."

In November of 1976, Folorunsho Alakija married Mr Modupe Alakija, a lawyer. Folorunsho Alakija has four children (four sons and grandchildren) and currently resides in Lagos with her family.

Alakija founded Supreme Stitches, a garment design studio that swiftly became a national brand. It was then renamed ‘Rose of Sharon House of Fashion,' and she collaborated with prominent members of society.

Folorunsho was given an Oil Prospecting License (OPL) to begin oil exploration on a 617,000-acre block called as OPL 216 in the central Niger Delta's Agbami Field. She formed a joint venture with Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited three years later, and the woman then named Star Deep as her technical consultant for the exploration of her license.

On March 9th, 2016, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija was named Chancellor of Osun State University. In fact, she holds the distinction of being the country's first female chancellor.
