Landmarks
A landmark is an important landscape, object or building that is easily recognizable from afar, particularly one that allows someone to establish its location. In this sense, some of the world's best known monuments, such as the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, or the Great Wall of China, are clear examples of easily identifiable landmarks.
In Venezuela, probably the Angel Falls, the largest uninterrupted waterfall in the world, is the most emblematic and internationally recognized place, however, due to its location in the Amazon region, far away from the main cities of the country, I have not had the fortune to visit it yet.
In my city, Barquisimeto, we have different unique monuments that allow us to identify ourselves, not only nationally but also internationally, as is the case of El Obelico (The Obelisk), a rectangular building 75 meters high, built in 1952 to celebrate the quadricentennial of the founding of the city, but unfortunately I do not have recent photographs to share.
Another iconic place is the Flower of Venezuela, a metal building that represented the country in the Expo 2000 in Hannover, and at the end of the exhibition, was dismantled and moved to be installed again in the place where it is now, about 50 meters from my home.
This monument inspired by the orchid, the national flower, has a hydraulic system that allows its 16 petals to open or close according to weather conditions, and inside it has a small auditorium and several exhibition halls, making it a landmark of the city.
As I have described in previous publications, I used the editing tools offered by Picsart and Snapseed applications to intervene the original image to my satisfaction.
Un hito o punto de referencia es un paisaje, objeto o edificación importante y fácilmente reconocible desde lejos, particularmente uno que permita a alguien establecer su ubicación. En este sentido, algunos de los monumentos más conocidos del mundo, como la Estatua de la Libertad en Nueva York, la Torre Eiffel en París, o la Gran Muralla China, constituyen claros ejemplos de puntos de referencia fácilmente identificables.
En Venezuela, probablemente el Salto Angel, la mayor caída de agua ininterrumpida del mundo, sea el lugar más emblemático y reconocido a nivel internacional, sin embargo, debido a su ubicación en la región amazónica, bastante alejado de las principales ciudades del país, no he tenido la fortuna de conocerlo aún.
En mi ciudad, Barquisimeto, contamos con diferentes monumentos únicos que permiten identificarnos, no sólo a nivel nacional sinó también a nivel internacional, como es el caso de El Obelisco, una edificación rectangular de 75 metros de altura, construída en 1952 para celebrar el cuatricentenario de la fundación de la ciudad, pero, lamentablemente no cuento con fotografías recientes para compartir.
Otro lugar icónico, es la Flor de Venezuela, una edificación metálica que representó al país en la Expo 2000 en Hannover, y que al finalizar la exposición, fué desmontada y trasladada para ser instalada nuevamente en el lugar donde se encuentra actualmente, a unos 50 metros de mi hogar.
Este monumento inspirado en la orquídea, la flor nacional, cuenta con un sistema hidráulico que permite que sus 16 pétalos se abran o cierren de acuerdo a las condiciones climáticas, y en su interior cuenta con un pequeño auditorio y diversas salas de exposiciones, constituyéndose en un punto de referencia de la ciudad.
Tal como lo he descrito en publicaciones anteriores, usé las herramientas de edición que ofrecen las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed para intervenir las imágenes originales a mi entera satisfacción.
