The staff working at Skansen was hard at work cleaning the park. It seemed that several new babies had been born, and they were very busy keeping the park as clean as possible.

Human children were also watching the reindeer children. I was curious to know how the reindeer viewed the bipedal sapiens.

This storage facility was used in the northern part of Sweden.

The stilts seem to have been thoughtfully designed to protect the stored food from bears and other animals.

Baby reindeer

June is a very comfortable season for us humans, and it seems that the animals living in Skansen are also enjoying this warm season.

We recently saw geese and ducks raising their young on a nearby lake, and we also saw animals raising their young in Skansen.

In Skansen, we were able to see baby reindeer in the open-air zoo, which exhibits plants and animals native to Sweden.

Reindeer are native to northern Sweden, and most are herded by the indigenous Sami people. According to a website introducing the Sami, there are more than 20,000 Sami people living in Sweden, and they herd more than 20,000 reindeer.

When I visited Harjedale, I often saw reindeer herded by the Sami. The Sami have acquired the right to herd reindeer in the northern part of Sweden, and they are allowed to enter the land of Swedes who live there. I have seen herds of reindeer in Harjedalen several times.

When I visited Skansen, I was able to see baby reindeer. The baby reindeer had only been born a few weeks before, and they were eating grass together with their parents.

I had seen reindeer several times, including when I visited Kiruna, but this was the first time I had seen a baby reindeer, so I was very happy. They were adorable and seemed to be doing their best to learn the rules of life in the herd from their parents. And the staff at Skansen was tending to the herd and busily cleaning the park.

Seeing the baby reindeer made me want to visit Kiruna again. Blog about a trip in Kiruna - https://travelfeed.io/@mizuosemla/mizuo-s-travel-blog-no-19-feeding-moss-to-reindeer-at-sami-village-sweden-dec-2020
