Very true on the earning and owning content part, the censorship is another huge plus.
However I do see a few reasons mass adoption is still not here:
ease of use; even though hive transaction are free and pretty quick it's not as snappy as trad. Social media. It also takes quite some knowledge to get started here.
different content; there's a lot of good content but even more mediocre to bad content. I use say Facebook for example mostly to follow certain niche topics I'm interested in and to interact in groups with people I know for practical reasons or peoole that share an interest to discuss and stay up to date in that topic. While it's great to engage with many new people here it's very different from Facebook as I know nobody in person here on Hive and almost everyone I interact with on Facebook.
UI, similar to point one the experience isn't the same. Trad. Social media are moving heavily into more visual content and less text while Hive and it's tribes are very text heavy. Now I'm not judging this, I actually think it's a good thing so we don't all end up with the attention span of a goldfish. But, it is what attracts the masses and keeps them on the platforms. Switching between videos, pictures and posts is seemless and intuitive in the trad. socials and people enjoy that a lot.
Of course there's the dilemma; do you chose censorship and ease of use over owning your content and earning from it with a little more effort and accept that you have to read some more again. For some it's an easy choice.. but I'm afraid that's not the same for everyone
