There is something very romantic and artistic about the old buildings of the city of Kolkata. And even more to the food that you get in these ancient streets.
After my thesis defence I decided to take a break from work for over a month and visit Himalayas and city of Kolkata. My vacation will end on 21st of Feb. But I thought that I would share and immortalize some of my experiences here on #hive block chain.
This day started in E-Mall at Esplanade, Kolkata. E-Mall is a place in Kolkata where you can find all kinds of phones, laptops and other electronics. I went there to get my phone repaired. But by noon I felt hungry. I knew that Esplande which houses all ancient restaurants with some of tastiest food in India, is nearby. So it was obvious where we were going next.
However, before heading for the lunch the first thing I wanted was to have was kullad wali chai (milk tea served in a glass made from clay soil - kullad). This tea merely costs INR 10 (approx 10 cents)
And then we walked through the streets of Esplanade, passing through the famous old building - Futnani chambers.
We decided to go to Nizam's that day - a restaurant that has been there, in that location, since 1932. The restaurant is famous for its Kathi rolls, Kathi kebabs and Chaap.
The interior of the this restaurant was so artistically done. It was full of ancient paintings and posters of old movies.
We finally decided to order a plate of Mutton Kathi kebabs and Chicken chaap along with some plain parathas. And guess how much was the cost this foodgasm we got from such a yummy meal. Mere INR 700 (less than $10). It
We finally decided to take a stroll through new market towards park street. It did take us 4 hours to walk that 1 km because of the amazing merchandise they selling at the cheapest prices ever. We bought a lot of beautiful stuff. Some of which we will probably never use in our lives. But what the hell.
Our day ended with a amazing mutton kathi roll at Kusum rolls. A street side roll joint which has been there since 1970s.
I am back in HIVE. But for a different reason. Nice to see you still active here. And these pics and Calcutta. Tell me more about this C/Brain thing some time :)
Really nice seeing how a building that has lasted for over 50years now is still looking like it was built yesterday... Would like to see these buildings one day
You should visit Kolkata sometime. Even the elevators inside these buildings are from British era. The don't have buttons like normal elevators today. Instead you have to rotate a lever.
Wow!!! I'm just wondering how that place will look like. But please if I can see a picture of how that place looks I would be very happy and grateful 😊😊😊
I don't have very good pictures of it. But there are one that I took back in 2019.
