- Personally, I believe that the government's role in society in terms of regulations should be greatly limited. Besides installing regulations that protect our basic rights and give us the services that our taxes pay for, it is best for the government to have as little a role as possible in our everyday lives. Like Bastiat says is his essay The Law, he explains how citizens are not the mindless objects that will spiral into chaos like an aggressive government would have us believe. People ultimately have their own best interest in mind and this means they will naturally try to work to give themselves the best life and therefore stimulates the economy. If the economy has the ability to be run without heavy regulations, then it is best to let it do so in order for the market to better reflect the status of the suppliers and consumers as they are not hassled by government regulation. This is the same in our personal lives, in which (most) humans will naturally look out for their own good, in turn society will also look out for itself and therefore be self sufficient. Although the government still has the responsibility to protect its citizens and their rights, I think that the government has little to no business in regulating areas of our lives that extend outside of these categories.
