Invest in your Skills

I always wanted to get a name rope for my baby Raag’s cot. I have been searching for it for a while now. I follow so many Instagram pages that sell such stuff but the price always stopped me from buying them.

Awestruck Price

The usual charge is 400/500 INR per alphabet. Considering Raag is a name with 4 alphabets, I would pay around 2000 INR for this name rope which is huge. I could do a lot of stuff in 2000 INR. 2 months of baby’s diapers, ½ month electricity bill, feeding 40 people with a meal. What’s the point of shelling out such a huge amount for a name rope which is just for my satisfaction. I mean, Raag would not even know for another year at least.

DIY

So I decided to get this done on my own. DIY – Do it yourself, they say. I searched same random youtube videos, found a nice one, saw it and tadaa! I had my name rope ready in just 1 hour.

What it cost me

It cost me about 50 INR to create this name rope against the 2000 INR that I would have paid to someone to do it for me. My question is – Would it be worth it if I had paid someone that amount?

Value of skill

Ok so apparently the sum being charged is not for the raw materials or the cost of goods involved, it’s for the art and the skill behind the name rope. How many of us would really go to the stationary to buy stuff, then learn how to make it and spare and hour to do it. One would rather want to chill and relax in that 1 hour and outsource the job to someone with skill. So worth it for me – Not at all because I have the skill (I could learn and make very easily). But worth it for those doing it as a job – Totally because time is money. They are giving you 1 hour of their life to you which is valuable, and they can charge for it.

So when it comes to such fancy stuff, it’s never about the cost involved, it’s all about the skill and mind that goes in making it. We say it so casually “Even I could do this.” But then did we, do it? NO. So?

One must always develop such skills that are uncommon and required and that’s how you make a difference to the world. You know something that others don’t know and that is how you can differentiate yourself from the rest of the world.

Have a great, skill full day!

Undoubtedly! If you have a skill and you are letting it go to waste, it's a great opportunity cost coming your way.

Maybe I could sell my time with my paintings😜

Lol, just kidding😅

Not a lot of posts on hive share the insights of how to make 2000Rs an hour. It's just an idea, but if an idea is applied with right execution, it can create a successful business.

If we think about it, hive was just an idea of social media decentralised. Bitcoin too was just an idea.

It may not just be skills but ideas + skills + execution😅

Thanks for sharing your ideas🙂

You never know when an idea can change your life. It’s about executing it with excellence at the right time.

Today finish product value 10x plus compare to raw or product expenses. So I think it is good to do it ourself if we are capable to do it. But if you have good money you can spend it to help others.

Ya, we can spend that money to help others in need, that's correct. But then those who have enough and are going richer by our money, it's better to use your skills and feed yourself first.
