You can add whatever you want. But you would love this dal without garlic too. The taste of the lentil itself is extremely good, it doesn't require too many additions.

Had to look up 'degi mirch tadka' and not sure if I can get that here. Never seen it. Will try this recipe soon tho.
Ok so degi Mirch tadka means heating just 1 tbsp oil in a small pan and adding less spicy red chilli powder to it. Once the chilli cooks in the oil (which would take about 4-5 sec), just garnish the oil on the dal.
