"Your word is only as good as your actions." Henry David Thoreau said this over fifty years ago. It resonates with most people today. When I heard that quote, it caused me to pause and ponder the idea. After many years of trying to improve my verbal communication skills, I came to realize it was indeed true. My word is only as good as my actions.
In business, your word is only as good as your actions. If you had made a mistake, then make sure you correct it and ensure you move on. But if you do not correct your mistakes, acknowledge them, apologize for them, or offer to fix them... your word is only as good as your actions. If you make an error in your written English, you need to write it down and take immediate action. However, you need to remember that if you do not fix your mistakes quickly, they will continue to be corrected over again.
Your word is definitely only as really good as your own actions. So, if you want good results, you need to take actions. A written article, no matter how well written, will not change much unless you take immediate action to implement what you write. For example, if you want to lose weight, you must take steps to burn more calories. If you do not take immediate steps to implement what you have written on your piece of paper, it will continue to remain a theory or piece of information, which you cannot use to take immediate action to lose weight.
I have found that most people, when they write articles, do not put any emphasis on the first part of the statement: "Your word is only as good as your actions." They believe that if you just keep saying your words over again, your words will eventually start to sink in, and you will become more vocal about your ideas. The truth is that your actions have the power to make your words more powerful than your words. Therefore, you need to take action to become more vocal about your ideas, before your words are able to penetrate into your subconscious mind.
Another example would be, If you set a goal for yourself, but never follow through with your goal, it does not matter how good your intentions are. If you are not consistent with your goal, and you fail to reach it on time, your actions will never compensate for your lack of consistency. To become more consistent with your actions, you need to find a way to motivate yourself to take action. If you want your word to be more powerful than your actions, then you need to learn how to use positive motivation to inspire you to take action.
A good example would be, If you want to become more successful at your job, you should not act on your own, but seek the help of someone else that already has the job that you desire. It does not matter if you are good at your job or not. If you are a great worker, you still need the help of someone that can push you towards success. When you seek out positive motivation from someone else, your actions will become stronger because you are already relying on that person for support. You cannot succeed without the help of another person.
Now, let's say that your word is only as good as your first thought. Your word probably did not come into play until your subconscious mind started thinking about something else. When your thoughts and your actions do not match up, your words are only as good as your first thought. You have to consistently repeat the action or thought, until your actions begin to match up with your words.
If your thought is, "I can," your actions will be forced to prove otherwise. If your thought is, "I can't," then your actions will have to prove otherwise. The only constant in life is change. Keep your word, and your word will eventually become your reality, and then only will your life be truly good.
True! Your actions define who you are and what you want to be. Saying out aloud isn't enough, you have to direct your performance in the right direction.
