DJI Mini 2 unboxing setup and first flight

Well, Hivers you have to love new toys and today the Tommy from DPD turned up with my DJI Mini 2.

I got the fly more combo with the spares and extra batteries.

So what’s in the box. For starters, there is a very natty padded shoulder bag

And apart from the drone and controller that you would get with the basic Mini 2.

There are an extra 2 batteries and a combo charger, a bunch of spare props, screws, and control sticks.

So first things first while the batteries and controller are on charge. You need to remove all of the transit stickers off the drone.

and there are quite a few. The easy ones to miss are the 2 on the camera gimbal.

While it's still on charge there’s time to watch a bit of YouTube on setting everything up and read the instructions.

Well, that’s everything charged up so time to switch it all on and upload the flight software to the phone then you can update the software from the DJI website from the drone and controller.

Time for that first flight bugger still a bit windy to fly in the garden with the trees and Sunday is football day at the local playing field so that’s out. So what do you do be sensible and pack it all away for another day. Hell no! you do exactly what they tell you not to and fly it in the house.

So the drone and the living room survived. It was surprisingly easy to control and having bounced toy drones off the wall in the past I'm well impressed with DJI.

One advantage of the mini 2 is it's a sub 250gram drone so the CAA restrictions on flying are a lot less restrictive and technically I should only need an operator's registration from the CAA. Unfortunately, some of the local bylaws insist on a flyer ID so that means taking the CAA exam. Probably not a bad idea really but that’s a job for another day.

I’m certainly looking forward to getting out and putting the Mini 2 through its paces when the wind drops a bit I’m sure it would handle it but not sure I would.
