DJI Mini is what I always wanted because it's more than enough considering that most of my journeys are away from cities and it's not easy to carry a big backpack with you. However, I heard lots of sad stories that they are not very well operated on high altitudes and that they lose signal and are flown away by the wind which is something that doesn't happen on the bigger drones. Anyway, I guess I have to make more research and see what's everything about before purchasing one. It's encouraging to hear that they don't require any registration tho, so thank you for replying back :)

So far I didn't owne a DJI drone so I can't speak from my own experience, but strong wind in the mountains will indeed be a problem with a slow drone. Loosing the link but shouldn't be such an issue, especially in the wilderness with no signal interferences. However, depending on the region DJI drones are limited in theirs output power. You can find tutorials on Youtube on how to disable this limitation to get the full range which can be as much as several miles.
