Blockchain-based games are one of my passions and this fact is evident just by looking at my Hive blog which is almost completely focused on blockchain games.
I have a natural preference for games created and developed on Hive's blockchain and in fact am an active player in all games currently playable on Hive and have also invested in games like PsyberX and Muterra that are not yet playable but will be in the near future.
For the year 2022, I set a goal to expand my knowledge on blockchain games and decided to also try games developed on blockchains other than Hive.
The first gaming project outside of Hive that I saw potential in and decided to invest in is Farming Tales.
Farming Tales is an NFT-based farming simulator built and developed on the WAX blockchain that has the peculiarity to use a 3D graphics engine, an aspect not very common in blockchain games, and also has a very particular goal: to link some NFTs to real goods from real farms (saffron, honey,...).

Calculations and Evaluations
In order to play Farming Tales and to collect in-game rewards, you need to buy one of several combinations of NFTs.
In today's post I will focus on evaluating a specific combination of 3 NFTs:
- Greenhouse + Vegetable Garden + Seed.
The Greenhouse is a Legendary type of NFT that allows you to produce a NFT Seed Box every 24 hours that can be sold on AtomicHub or can be opened.
If opened, the NFT SeedBox contains 3 NFT of Seed type that can be sold or used within the Farming Tales farms.
On Farming Tales I have my own farm but I also have a second farm that is owned by @oneup-cartel but that I manage.
In the following image you can see the two farms, the one on the left is mine while the one on the right is OneUp Cartel's farm.
Both farms have the Greenhouse but they have a different number of Garden type NFTs.
On my farm there are 6 NFT Vegetables Garden and 5 NFT Stable + 5 NFT Animals
On OneUp Cartel's farm, there are 2 NFT Vegetable Garden and 6 NFT Stable + 6 NFT Animals.
To collect rewards from a Garden NFT you must do the following:
- collect from the Greenhous an NFT Seed Box
- open the Seed Box and choose the seed to use among the three found inside the Box.
- plant the Seed in the free slot of the Vegetable Garden
- wait for the seed to become a plant
- harvest the seed which allows you to receive a certain amount of SEST tokens as a reward.
The steps I have listed above are the same for each seed and for each farm but what changes is the value of the reward that changes from farm to farm because the variables involved are different and change according to:
- the amount of water needed to harvest the crop which is not the same for all seeds
- the type of Water Tower present in a farm.
In fact, the Garden type NTFs need water otherwise they cannot be harvested and the Seed type NTFs have a different production time and a different amount of water needed.
I put all the production data of the plants that can be grown on Farming Tales in a table and calculated for each plant:
- the gain per harvest
- the gain per day (SEST)
As you can see from the following image all plants have the same earnings per day (SEST tokens) and therefore there are no plants that produce a greater amount of rewards per day than others.
It is the NFTs of Water Tower type that affect the profit that can be obtained from each harvest, which will be higher for the player who has an epic Water Tower type and lower for those who have a common Water Tower type.
With the introduction of the Seed System, the cost to refill the Water Tower has increased and is now 50 CBITs.
Although the cost to recharge the Water Tower is the same, the three types of Water Tower have different capabilities and therefore the cost per unit of water is different as you can see from the table below.
This difference in cost per unit of water requires you to choose a different strategy for using the SEED cards to plant for each type of Water Tower used.
Choosing SEEDS to plant in the non-optimal way leads to wasted water and therefore leads to a lower gain.
First Case: Greenhouse + Water Tower of common type
In the following table you can see the case of the player who has a Water Tower of common type and must choose which seeds to plant.
If he plants 5 seeds that have a production time of 3 days and have a water requirement of 18 units per seed, he will use only 90% of the water contained in his Water Tower and will waste 10 units of water whose cost is 5 CBITs = $0.14.
The exact same waste of water units is obtained by sowing 3 NFT of Seed type which have a production time of 5 days.
The best possible choice is to sow 4 NFT of Seed type that have a production time of 4 days and a water consumption of 24 units per single harvest.
I tried to simulate the use of other combinations of NFT of Seed type but with the Water Tower of common type it is not possible to avoid a waste of water that is in the best case of 4 units = 2 CBIT = 0.056$.
Second Case: Greenhouse + Water Tower of Rare type
The following table shows the case of the player who has a Water Tower of rare type.
In this case there is an optimal choice that allows not to waste water.
In fact, by planting 6 NFT with a production time of 5 days and a water cost of 30 units per harvest, the water waste is equal to 0.
In the two remaining cases the minimum water waste is 6 units.
Third Case: Greenhouse + Water Tower of Epic type
In the following table there is the last case I analyzed: the case of the player who has a Water Tower of Epic type.
In this case it is not possible to have a water waste = 0.
The best choice is to use 11 NFT of Seed type that have a production time of 3 days because the water loss is only 2 units whose cost is 0.5 CBIT = 0.0140$.
Note: it is possible to choose combinations of different seeds but I stopped to analyze the cases of easiest application considering the use of seeds that have the same production time and I stopped at the first case of optimal use.
Final Considerations
The beauty of blockchain-based games is that players have full ownership of the game assets (NFTs and tokens).
Right now the value of SEST tokens has dropped a lot compared to a few days ago.
For example, on February 27, 1 SEST token was worth 0.013 WAX today it is worth 0.0046 WAX.
In a blockchain-based game, fluctuations in the values of tokens and NFTs are part of the life of the game and can be opportunities for gain as well as opportunities for loss.
For example if the value of SEST tokens were to go back up in the future, buying SEST tokens today would lead to a good future profit.
In farming games making calculations and forecasts is important before buying or selling a game asset even if the forecasts might turn out to be wrong.
In the current context and according to the current values of the tokens connected to the Farming Tales game the possible investment strategies can be different.
For example I have:
- a Greenhouse NFT that allows me to have Seed type NFTs at cost 0
- a Water Tower of epic type
- 6 NFT Vegetable Garden
I could use 11 NFT of type Seed (production time of 3 days) to obtain a total of 3168 SEST tokens.
Considering the cost of the current CBIT tokens I would get a profit of 9,318 WAX = $2,483.
If instead of using NFTs of Seed type I decide to try to sell 3 Seed Boxes at the lowest price in the market (3.6 WAX) I would get a profit of 10.8 WAX - AtomicHub Fee = 9.828 WAX.
If I use 11 Seed I get a profit of 9.318 WAX.
If I try to sell 3 Seed Box = 9 Seed I could get a profit of 9,828 WAX
In your opinion dear reader what will I decide to do?
I could also decide to use the WAX tokens obtained from the sale of the Seed Boxes to buy the SEST tokens that today have a really low value and I could sell them when and if their value will increase.
This will be the strategy I will follow in the coming days for both my personal investment and OneUp Cartel's investment on Farming Tales and obviously this strategy will change if the values of Farming Tales assets change.
A blockchain-based game offers so many possible strategic investment choices and that's why I like them so much ;)
As my seventh weekly report as an operator of Oneup Cartel I wanted to publish something different:
- a financial evaluation of the Seed System which is one of the latest features introduced by the Farming Tales development team
- the strategy I have chosen to follow.

Per l'anno 2022 mi sono posto l'obiettivo di ampliare la mia conoscenza sui giochi blockchain e ho deciso di provare anche giochi sviluppati su blockchain diverse da Hive.
Il primo progetto di gaming al di fuori di Hive in cui ho visto delle potenzialità e in cui ho deciso di investire è Farming Tales.
Farming Tales è un simulatore di farming basato su NFT costruito e sviluppato sulla blockchain WAX che ha la particolarità di utilizzare un motore grafico 3D, aspetto poco diffuso nei giochi blockchain, e ha anche un obiettivo molto particolare: collegare alcuni NFT a beni reali di reali fattorie (zafferano, miele,...).

Per giocare a Farming Tales e per raccogliere le ricompense di gioco è necessario comprare una tra diverse combinazione di NFT.
Nel post di oggi mi focalizzerò sulla valutazione di una specifica combinazione di 3 NFT:
- Greenhouse + Vegetable Garden + Seed
Il Greenhouse è un NFT di tipo leggendario che permette di produrre ogni 24h un NFT Seed Box che può essere venduto su AtomicHub oppure può essere aperto.
Se aperto l'NFT SeedBox contiene 3 NFT di tipo Seed che possono essere a loro volta venduti o utilizzati all'interno delle fattorie di Farming Tales.
Su Farming Tales ho una fattoria tutta mia ma ho anche una seconda fattoria che è di proprietà di @oneup-cartel ma che gestisco io.
Nell'immagine seguente puoi vedere le due fattorie, quella di sinistra è la mia mentre quella di destra è la fattoria di OneUp Cartel.
Entrambe le fattorie hanno il Greenhouse ma hanno un numero diverso di NFT di tipo Garden.
Nella mia fattoria ci sono 6 NFT Vegetables Garden e 5 NFT Stable + 5 NFT Animals
Nella fattoria di OneUp Cartel ci sono 2 NFT Vegetable Garden e 6 NFT Stable + 6 NFT Animals
Per raccogliere le ricompense da un NFT di tipo Garden è necessario effettuare il seguente procedimento:
- raccogliere dal Greenhous un NFT Seed Box
- aprire il Seed Box e scegliere il seme da utilizzare tra i tre trovati all'interno del Box.
- piantare il Seed nello slot libero del Vegetable Garden
- aspettare che il seme diventi pianta
- effettuare il raccolto che permette di ricevere un certo quantitativo di token SEST come ricompensa.
I passi che ho elencato sopra sono uguali per ogni seme e per ogni fattoria ma quello che cambia è il valore della ricompensa che cambia da fattoria a fattoria perchè le variabili in gioco sono diverse e cambiano in base:
- al quantitativo di acqua necessario per effettuare il raccolto che non è uguale per tutti i semi
- al tipo di Water Tower presente in una fattoria.
Infatti gli NFT di tipo Garden hanno bisogno di acqua altrimenti non è possibile effettuare il raccolto e gli NFT di tipo Seed hanno un tempo di produzione diverso e un quantitativo di acqua necessario diverso.
Ho inserito tutti i dati di produzione delle piante coltivabili su Farming Tales in una tabella e ho calcolato per ogni pianta:
- il guadagno per harvest
- il guadagno per giorno (SEST)
Come puoi vedere dall'immagine seguente tutte le piante hanno lo stesso guadagno per giorno e quindi non ci sono piante che producono un maggior quantitativo di ricompense per giorno rispetto ad altre.
Sono gli NFT di tipo Water Tower che influenzano il profitto ottenibile da ogni harvest, profitto che sarà maggiore per chi ha una Water Tower di tipo epico e minore per chi ha una Water Tower di tipo comune.
Con l'introduzione del Seed System il costo per ricaricare la Water Tower è aumentato ed è ora di 50 CBIT.
Anche se il costo di ricarica delle Water Tower è uguale, i tre tipi di Water Tower hanno capienze diverse e quindi il costo per unità di acqua è diverso come puoi vedere dalla tabella seguente.
Questa differenza di costo per unità di acqua obbliga a scegliere una diversa strategia di utilizzo delle carte SEED da piantare per ogni tipologia di Water Tower utilizzata.
Scegliere i semi da piantare nel modo non ottimale porta a sprecare acqua e quindi porta ad un guadagno inferiore.
Primo Caso: Greenhouse + Water Tower di tipo comune
Nella tabella seguente puoi vedere il caso del giocatore che ha una Water Tower di tipo comune e deve scegliere quali semi piantare.
Se semina 5 semi che hanno un tempo di produzione di 3 giorni e che hanno un fabbisogno di acqua di 18 unità per seme utilizzerà solo il 90% dell'acqua contenuta nella sua Water Tower e sprecherà 10 unità di acqua il cui costo è di 5 CBIT = 0.14$.
Lo stesso identico spreco di unità di acqua si ottiene seminando 3 NFT di tipo Seed che hanno un tempo di produzione di 5 giorni.
La miglior scelta possibile è quella di seminare 4 NFT di tipo Seed che hanno un tempo di produzione di 4 giorni e un consumo di acqua di 24 unità per singolo harvest.
Ho provato a simulare l'utilizzo di altre combinazioni di NFT di tipo Seed ma con la Water Tower di tipo comune non è possibile evitare uno spreco di acqua che è nel caso migliore di 4 unità = 2 CBIT = 0.056$
Secondo Caso: Greenhouse + Water Tower di tipo Raro
Nella tabella seguente c'è invece il caso del giocatore che ha una Water Tower di tipo raro.
In questo caso c'è una scelta ottimale che permette di non avere spreco di acqua.
Infatti piantando 6 NFT che hanno un tempo di produzione di 5 giorni e un costo di acqua di 30 unità per harvest lo spreco di acqua è uguale a 0.
Nei due rimanenti casi lo spreco di acqua minimo ottenibile è di 6 unità.
Terzo Caso: Greenhouse + Water Tower di tipo Epico
Nella tabella seguente c'è l'ultimo caso che ho analizzato: il caso del giocatore che ha una Water Tower di tipo Epico.
In questo caso non è possibile avere uno spreco di acqua = 0.
La scelta migliore è quella di utilizzare 11 NFT di tipo Seed che hanno un tempo di produzione di 3 giorni perchè la perdita di acqua è di solo 2 unità il cui costo è di 0.5 CBIT = 0.0140$.
Nota: è possibile scegliere combinazioni di semi diversi ma io mi sono fermato ad analizzare i casi di più semplice applicazione considerando l'utilizzo di semi che hanno lo stesso tempo di produzione e mi sono fermato al primo caso di utilizzo ottimale.
Considerazioni Finali
Il bello dei giochi basati su blockchain è che i giocatori hanno la piena proprietà degli assets di gioco (NFT e token).
In questo momento il valore dei token SEST è calato molto rispetto a qualche giorno fa.
Ad esempio il 27 febbrario 1 token SEST valeva 0.013 WAX oggi vale 0.0046 WAX.
In un gioco basato su blockchain le oscillazioni dei valori dei token e degli NFT sono parte della vita dello stesso gioco e possono essere occasioni di guadagno come anche occasioni di perdita.
Ad esempio se il valore dei token SEST dovesse tornare a salire in futuro, acquistare oggi i token SEST porterebbe ad un buon profitto futuro.
Nei giochi di farming fare calcoli e previsioni è importante prima di acquistare o vendere un asset del gioco anche se poi le previsioni potrebbero rivelarsi sbagliate.
Nel contesto attuale e in base ai valori attuali dei token collegati al gioco di Farming Tales le strategie possibili di investimento possono essere diverse.
Ad esempio io che ho:
- un NFT Greenhouse che mi permette di avere gli NFT di tipo Seed a costo 0
- una Water Tower di tipo epico
- 6 NFT Vegetable Garden
potrei utilizzare 11 NFT di tipo Seed (tempo di produzione di 3 giorni) per ottenere un totale di 3168 token SEST.
Considerando il costo dei token CBIT attuale otterrei un profitto di 9.318 WAX = 2.483$
Se invece di utilizzare gli NFT di tipo Seed decido di provare a vendere 3 Seed Box al prezzo più basso del mercato (3.6 WAX) otterrei un profitto di 10.8 WAX - Fee AtomicHub = 9.828 WAX.
Se utilizzo 11 Seed ottengo un profitto di 9.318 WAX

Secondo te caro lettore cosa deciderò di fare?
Potrei anche decidere di utilizzare i token WAX ottenuti dalla vendita dei Seed Box per comprare i token SEST che hanno oggi un valore davvero basso e potrei rivenderli quando e se il loro valore aumenterà.
Questa sarà la strategia che seguirò nei prossimi giorni sia per il mio investimento personale che per l'investimento di OneUp Cartel su Farming Tales e ovviamente questa strategia cambierà se cambieranno i valori degli assets di Farming Tales.
Un gioco basato su blockchain offre tante possibili scelte strategiche di investimento ed è per questo che mi piacciono tanto ;)

I have started playing 1 week ago and invested in some animals and in a Greenhouse.
You are right that at the current seed prices the gardens are not profitable if you have to buy the seeds and it's also better to sell them. But prices are already dropping and I am looking forward to New Waxchester when the harvesting will end up in materials instead of SEST.
I like your hint with the waste of water because that will cost money! I am just missing the count ingame like in the Taco app.
For your own calculation take into consideration that the Greenhouse also needs 1 Water per Day. These would be the missing 4 Water for your Common Water Tower and 4 Days calculation. With the Rare Water Tower and 5 days you would miss 5 Water if you harvest Greenhouse every day.
Depending on the amount of Gardens and with the mixing up of different harvest times it will get more tricky to optimize my own farm, but I like that part of calculation and optimization :)
With New Waxchester it will just become more diversified 😃

Ho iniziato scaricando il wallet anchor che supporta wax. Avrei voluto inviarci wax da binance o kucoin (tradando quel che già ci ho sopra) per cambiarli in sest via alchor, ma vedo che nè una nè l'altra exchange li supporta. Coinbase, neanche a parlarne. Solo waxp sono presenti. Come fare?
Non so che token hai su binance o kucoin ma puoi usare https://tribaldex.com/
dovresti ricevere una versione SWAP del token che depositi che poi puoi vendere in cambio di SWAP.HIVE e comprare SWAP.WAX e poi fare il withdraw e inviarli sul tuo wallet WAX.
I passaggi sono sicuramente di più ma è un percorso che puoi seguire. Sinceramente non mi sono informato sugli exchange che permettono di comprare e vendere WAX.
Se usi TribalDEX ti consiglio di affidarti alle offerte BID perchè spesso se c'è poca liquidità potresti lasciare per strada molto valore ;)

Tribaldex lo uso per il market trading di questi token appunto (in alternativa a hive-engine), ma purtroppo non ho la minima idea di cosa siano le offerte BID (scusa l'ignoranza😢), quindi mi sa che seguirò la via del tradizionale trading. Solo devo tornare ad accumulare un altro po', che giusto ieri ho voluto approfittare dei saldi interessanti per un altro cavolfiore e una average farmland (ovviamente dcrops🤣), ultimamente senza più scomodare rising star🤣.
Spero che nel frattempo non passi la legge che in Italia fa rischiare l'oscuramento di hive e le altre piattaforme simili, se no anche per gli NFT potrebbe risultare dura, specie se di matrice italiana come farming tales (non so se sai, ma due utenti hanno già rilevato su ODB che al governo vi sono lavori in corso per obbligare le exchange a svelare tutte le operazioni che gli utenti residenti in Italia fate, con la solita beata scusante del mal supposto riciclaggio a cui non credono nemmeno loro. Ora, il problema non sono minimamente le tasse, ma la solita menata della natura dell'attività da cui provengono i guadagni in criptomonete. Siccome la tecnologia viaggia molto più veloce del fisco italiano, spero non sia dura la questione della categorizzazione (inquadramento) di hive e compagnia bella. Uno dei due utenti ha riportato l'immagine della gazzetta ufficiale sul punto.

Si @pousinha ho letto delle novità riguardo la dichiarazione delle crypto e l'obbligo per gli exchange.
Hive non è un exchange centralizzato e non ha proprietari e quindi se dovesse essere chiamato in causa non risponderebbe in alcun modo. Ormai di trovate italiane di qualsiasi governo e di qualsiasi colore ne ho viste tante nella mia vita...la costante è che fanno leggi per fare cassa senza conoscere approfonditamente la materia che dovrebbero regolamentare e infatti inserendo anche i custodial wallet hanno mostrato quello che ho appena scritto. L'elefante ignorante si muove, il mondo delle blockchain viagga molto più veloce ;)
Potranno oscurare Hive ma accedere ad Hive sarà sempre facilissimo avendo un minimo di compentenze, il problema sorgerebbe nel momento in cui si fa cashout ma io avendo obiettivi di lungo periodo su Hive non mi pongo questo problema almeno per il momento.
Cmq aspettiamo di vedere cosa succederà e cosa partorirà la solita ingarbugliata legge e poi io personalmente sceglierò come muovermi.
Preciso non ho nulla da nascondere e le dichiarazioni e le tasse non sono un problema per me ma quello che mi preoccupa è il modo di legiferare e operare considerato come hanno operato in passato su settori che non conoscevano minimamente come ad esempio il trading sportivo in cui ho operato per un periodo della mia vita, avevano fatto una legge per tassare un settore ma in pratica lo stavano uccidendo perchè con quelle tasse nessuno ci avrebbe mai più operato nè operatori e nè trader...poi sono stati messi puntualmente alla berlina dal TAR che ha bocciato quell'assurdita partorita da persone pagate 15000 euro al mese... Cmq se non sarò costretto non voglio minimamente mettermi a fare salti mortali per dichiarare cose che chi le richiede non conosce...è una questione di principio. In conclusione per il momento non mi preoccupo e aspetto ;)
Per quanto riguarda TribalDEX è un alternativa ad Hive Engine ma puoi usare l'uno o l'altro.
Se fai trading le offerte BID già le conosci sono semplicemente le offerte di acquisto ad un prezzo inferiore rispetto all'offerta di vendita. In questo modo aspetti ma ottieni più token ;)
