My Canna Art

When I signed up for Hive, it was so I could work on my craft of writing.

Photography is one of my passions, however I will do my best to accompany my photos with thoughtfully chosen words in every post.

Cannabis is also another one of my passions, and that includes, the culture, the history, growing, breeding, photography and more.

Currently, I am writing a how to guide, or better yet, an instruction manual for beginners, on how to grow your own. I may bounce some ideas / rough drafts, around on here as I develop my skills. Here’s a little bit of what I have been working on:

The biggest myth around growing weed, is that it’s harder to grow than a weed.

Honestly, if you have ever grown a tomato, you can grow some herb.

There is one major difference between growing cannabis and growing tomatoes, and that’s what’s known as a photoperiod. Photoperiod is the reason why many inexperienced growers never get their plants to maturity. Cannabis has evolved to start flowering when darkness is equal or greater than daylight. Depending on your latitude, this is going to vary greatly, and if you’re growing outside, your season is limited to time. The basic breakdown to keep in mind is, grow your plant till it’s roughly half the height you’re able to manage, or if you want to go by time, once you have a seedling, you’re going to want to give it about a month of “veg” time under 12 + hours of light, 16 hours a day should suffice, with 8 hours of darkness. When you’re ready to start flowering, or to “flip”, you want to give your plants 12 or more hours of uninterrupted darkness per day. Indoors, this can be easily achieved with a grow tent and a light on a smart timer. Outdoors you can cover your plants with tarps, but requires much more manpower. Once your plants start flowering, keep the light cycle consistent, 12/12 is the most common, however you can go 11/13 or even 10/14 (light / dark), which may speed up flowering times. Most of today’s cannabis we consume finishes flowering 8-9 weeks after flip, however some of the more equatorial / narrow leaved varieties can flower 20+ weeks. I would suggest using genetics that flower in the 8-9 week period when starting off.

Thanks for reading.

Do your research, start off with genetics that speak to you. Growing cannabis is a long, but gratifying journey, and it’s important to do everything you can to ensure success. Join communities, listen to podcasts, read and most importantly, just start. You will make mistakes, but that’s where the learning happens. Weed is a gateway drug, a gateway drug to gardening, and once you pull your first successful harvest, you’ll be hooked.

I love this photos, i can see the trichos with so much details :D

Thanks! I’ve been blessed with good genetics that most of the time produce lots of resin

First let me welcome you to the Cannabis community! I fell doing cannabis grows on Hive is the perfect place. Not only for the censorship aspect, but for so many more reasons. I used to grow myself, and my personal account is @jonyoudyer. I had so much fun growing, and posting here to hive. It sucks to had to take a break, but I really love to read other peoples grow logs. :)
