This week's edition of the Digi-lifestyle prompt really took me down memory lane.
I remember creating my first email when there became a need for me to register for an external exam. Back in the year 2009, I and a friend of mine who had already created an email went to the cyber cafe where you have to buy time to enable you to access the Internet.
It wasn't my first time at the cafe, though, as the private school I attended during my junior secondary school, though the computer assignment given to us at the time required that we get some information from the internet, so I would normally go with my dad to the cyber cafe to browse in order to get my assignments done, especially computer assignments.
In the year 2011, my best friend at the time visited me and asked if I was on Facebook, and apparently I didn't know what it was. My dad had a laptop, and then there was a desktop computer in our house. We used my dad's Starcom phone, which at the time was also a modem. All you needed to do was to connect the USB cable from the phone to your computer and select the modern option, and you are good to go, my friend. David helped me create a Facebook account, and soon I started adding people both known and unknown after my friend had carefully explained to me how to navigate the user interface.
One of the beauties of it then was the fact that I got to talk to relatives and friends who were no longer together in the same location. My dad gave me his Nokia C3 when he got a new phone, and I was so happy I opened WhatsApp and 2go on that phone. It was during the time when service providers gave like 10 megabits on every one hundred naira recharge back then.
Every evening after the day's activities, WhatsApp and 2go were the last activities before bed, and I spent a lot of time chatting with friends and my distant cousins. This helped us to build and better our relationships.
