Hello everyone, trust you had a great weekend, it's funny how the weekend tends to run and the week drags.
Growing up, having a television was a luxury, having a good one meant that you were rich or from a rich family, as such you would have so many visitors especially children that would come just to watch their favorite television shows on your TV.
We had a very small TV, especially when we were much younger, it wasn't so much, but it was something. At that time we couldn't really watch much other than what the local TV stations had to offer.
Thinking about all of it now I can’t help but laugh. I remember we had two antennas, one on the TV itself and one pole-like one outside, they both served as means for enabling us to get better signals, and also for ensuring that the channels were clear enough for us to watch.
How can I forget to add the fact that it was a black and white television, so there wasn't any color on it, it was either black or white. I can imagine subjecting the children of these days to such a television, the questions that would follow would be questions like: “What is this?”, “Where did you get that box from, please take it away”, not knowing that it was a luxury item during the good old days.
After some time of having the black and white television, we upgraded to the colored one, but we still needed the antennas to help with the signal and also for the clarity of the channels. I remember one particular day, we had a soap opera to watch on one of the channels, I can't really remember the name of the soap opera, but it was a rave then. So we had to watch it as it was a daily show. We got home from church that evening and after having dinner, we decided to go watch our TV show, but it wasn't clear enough.
One of us had to go outside to turn the antenna, while the rest of us stayed back to watch if the antenna was helping or not. So while the person outside was turning the outside antenna, it looked like it was getting clearer. The funny thing was that while my sister was turning the antenna, at some point it would become as though it was clear, after some time, it would go back to square one. At some point, we got fed up, but we didn't relent because we knew what was at stake. Finally, we were able to hold it down, we shouted shouts of victory and settled down to see our soap opera.
The antenna issue wasn't the only issue that we faced with our television set. There were times when while watching something, the TV would just go off and we had to hit it before it would pick up again.
It's amazing how so much has changed over the years, now we don't just have televisions, we have smart ones that can access the internet and do so many other things that we never thought possible, we really have evolved since much.
Thank you for stopping by, what was your television experience growing up, did you have a good set of television or was it a push-and-start one like mine?
Amazing how far we’ve come isn’t it? That’s one heck of a story and I can relate. Hitting the TV! lol! I think many people experienced that as well
Really amazing, technology has by far advanced. Hitting the TV sounds hilarious now, but it was our realilty then.
Thanks for stopping by.
