The Story of My Phone, Laptop and Power Bank's Batteries

in Digital Lifestyle15 hours ago

Let me tell you a tragic story. A real-life horror movie. The day my phone decided to betray me in the worst way possible.

I was in the middle of an important online meeting looking all professional and put together, you know the usual T-shirt with sweatpants combo because all they can see is the top. Everything was going well until I glanced at my battery percentage, 10% and I still had like 30 minutes to go.

At the time, I had no power bank. Long story short, I had to end the meeting abruptly when my phone went from 10% to 5% in a minute.

The next day, my dad, being the sweet soul he is, got me a new power bank. You’d think my problems were solved, but no oh. somehow, I always forget to charge this power bank. Like, how do I remember to charge my phone but never the power bank that’s supposed to be its backup? Make it make sense. I'd watch my phone get to 1% before running helter-skelter looking for its charger.

Honestly sev, at this point, I just wish someone would develop phones that don’t even need to be charged. Maybe they could be programmed like humans, fully active in the daytime, then automatically “sleep” at night. That way, they’d not only save battery but also promote a healthy sleep routine for people like me, who are always glued to their screens. Or at the very least, can we get phones with wireless contact charging? No cables, no drama. Just place your phone on any surface, and automatic charging! If there are already phones like that, give me the deets please. Oh nevermind, I probably won't be able to afford it.

These days, though, I don’t even use my phone for much. I mean, after going through consecutive dead batteries and unreliable power banks, entirely my fault though, I’ve kind of trained myself to rely more on my laptop. And I have to say, laptop batteries are elite. No offense to mobile phones, but laptop is built different. The battery lasts forever. I don’t know if it’s because it’s inbuilt or just high-quality, but laptop batteries just do not stress you.

But even with all that battery strength, I do fear the day my laptop starts to give up. Laptop batteries are not only ridiculously expensive but also super hard to find in good condition. If mine ever starts misbehaving, I might actually shed real tears.

And while we’re on the topic of batteries, let’s talk about my power bank (aka the device I trust the least). The first two I owned got swollen overnight. Till today, I have no idea why. I remember how everyone in my hostel scared me back then, that swollen power banks do explode. Imagine exploding someone's else's properties, ah, God abeg.

Maybe it was because I left them on the cold floor, or maybe I overcharged them. Either way, it left me with trust issues. Which is probably why I don’t even pay my current power bank much attention. Deep down, I already expect it to disappoint me.

So yeah, until someone invents a self-charging phone, I guess I’ll just have to keep living this chaotic, low-battery life. 😭

Fun fact, most phones now have scheduled power on/off feature. Androids at least. What brand of power banks were those?

Really? What Android models?

Both were Itel products, 20,000mAh
