Emergency Mode: The technology that keeps me connected

In today’s fast-paced world, technology feels like a lifeline, especially during emergencies. For many of us, our phones aren’t just devices for chatting; they’re our go-to tools when things go south.

I learned this the hard way when I was involved in an accident. My phone became my most crucial link to safety, allowing me to quickly reach my parents. In that moment, I really grasped how much I rely on my phone in critical situations.

But it’s not just the big emergencies that matter. There are smaller, yet equally important moments when tech comes to the rescue. I remember a time when I ran out of mobile data at the worst possible moment and needed to renew my plan.

Thankfully, even without data, I could purchase a new plan using a USSD code from my network provider—one of those random codes I’ve memorized for times like this. It’s amazing how our phones can do so much more than we realize, offering solutions when we least expect them.

This reliance on my phone has significantly changed how I prepare for emergencies. I always keep a power bank handy, just in case I can’t access electricity but still need my phone.

Plus, memorizing key phone numbers and those handy USSD codes gives me a little extra peace of mind, especially if I need to use a different device for help. Seriously, my power bank has become my most valuable backup plan—like, I can’t imagine being caught without a charged phone when it matters!

But let’s be real; backup plans can’t rely solely on technology. When I’m feeling overwhelmed and can’t handle things on my own, I turn to the people around me for support. While this definitely eases my anxiety, the truth is, humans aren’t always reliable, which can leave me feeling uncertain sometimes.

That’s why I often find myself thinking through different scenarios—it helps me feel more prepared to tackle whatever comes my way, whether it’s tech or the good old human touch.
