This place gives you up to 55% discount for takeaway coffee !!
In my previous blog, I wrote article about the place in South Jakarta which offers free coffee for everyone. This time, its not offering free coffee but they give such an interesting discount rate if you have it for takeaway, wow ! I personally still questioning myself on how come this place dare to give such a huge discount ? In some places, giving discount / different price for dine in and takeaway is actually common, but normally from what I saw, so far the rate is not so high like around 10 – 20% only. But 55%, its really another level. So how did I found this place, how it is looks like and what would be the reason behind the great discount ? Here are my story.
I was driving in Kemang, a district in South Jakarta known for its middle upper hangout places and residential area where suddenly, I passed by a small banner in a coffee and eatery place called Ramurasa & Ramuasap which contains such interesting offer. The picture of the banner is below :

The banner shows their iced coffee product called “Kopi Susu Ramu” which means in English : Ramu’s Iced Coffee got discounted from 25.000 IDR ( + 1.6 USD) to 13.000 IDR ( + 0.8 USD) only which is 48% discount then. It’s already considered a pretty good deal considering the area is in Kemang which is a middle upper area and most of the coffee shops in there set the price range from 25 – 50.000 IDR ( + 1.6 - 3 USD). The shop appearance as well is actually quite nice from outside so I’m quite surprised that they give such a pretty good price.

As I have another thing to do on that day, I decided that I must go back there again and give it a try so soon. So, I came back 2 days later and I’m ready to discover and fulfil my curiosity about this place and for sure, the discounted coffee. So, I entered the shop, greeted by the barista and I straightaway asked him “the discount for takeaway coffee written in the banner at the front, can I have that one ?” then barista then replied "yes sure, the price written on the banner is actually the old price and we do the takeaway discount for 2 variants of our coffee products” He then told me that the 2 variants that receiving discount are “Kopi Susu Ramu” which is iced creamy coffee and “Kopi Susu Aren” which is also iced coffee but using palm sugar as sweetener. “For “Kopi Susu Ramu” you got 13.000 IDR for takeaway and for “Kopi Susu Aren” you get 15.000 IDR ( + 1 USD)” said the barista. “I see, that’s nice so how much is it actually if I want to have it for dine in ?” “Well, please have a look at our menu to check the price as well as seeing our other drinks and food menu in case you want it to”, said the barista. Alright, so I looked at the menu and found out that the discount is actually worth more than I thought.

As it shown in here, the latest price of the iced coffee are not 25.000 IDR anymore but 30 and 33.000 IDR ( + 2.1 USD). I am then decided to have the “Kopi Susu Aren” for my takeaway as I prefer iced coffee with palm sugar. Alright, I am then paying my coffee for 15.000 which is 55% cheaper than the original / dine in price.

Feeling satisfied, I asked the barista on how come they give such this huge amount of discount for takeaway but he had no idea as he’s only working there and all strategy came out from the bosses but the discount has been applied for a long time already. I was then look around the place a little bit before leaving to discover what they have inside and hope it gives me some clue behind the reason of the great discount. The place is actually more than just coffee and eatery shop but they also sell household appliances there, I don’t know if the household appliances products owned by the same owner as well or it is a consignment.

But, I then having a few hypothesis to support my curiosity about the reason behind this discount and they are :
The discount helps to attract people to come, try the coffee, and discover other drinks and food menu with the expectation that they will order it as well apart of the discounted coffee.
The discount helps to attract people to come, try the coffee, discover the menu and find out how comfy is the place with expectation that they will come back to have a dine in on the next visit.
The discount helps to attract people to come, try the coffee, discover the menu, the place and the household appliances being sold there as awareness in case they are interested to purchase or recently in need for household products.
The discount helps to attract people to come, try the coffee and if they are not interested for other menu nor trying to dine in or shop for household appliances, they can be returning customers for coffee takeaway as they discover how cheap and good the coffee is.
Above are my own assumption but if in case you have other thoughts, feel free to discuss it over the comments. I personally think the place is quite comfy but the food price are a bit expensive in my opinion. The drinks price is still fair enough and they also have a bundling menu for cheaper options.

I went there on Wednesday afternoon around 2 pm and the place was kind of quiet, maybe because it was already passed lunchtime and it was on weekdays, during the weekend or peak time they might be busier. Together with me, there was a group of ladies having lunch and 2 female customers who came at the same time as me to grab takeaway coffee as well. I tried the coffee already once I arrived home and I think it is not bad for the quality of 33.000 IDR coffee, not special but not bad either. However as I got it for 55% discount I would say its pretty nice and fair for that price, lol. Would I go back there again for dine in ? Perhaps I will give it a try if I need to hang out in a group in Kemang and we probably will try the bundling menu so we can experience their food as well. If it only by myself, I would go back for another great discount takeaway coffee again for sure
