Looking Through The Window

Looking through the window is a pleasure I can't live without. Starting with the window at home and continuing with the window at the hotel where we are staying on holiday. Windows seems to be one of man's most important achievements, I try to think what it would be like if we had to live in a house without windows!

Is a seat near the window, or one more nestled away ideal for you when out for a coffee? Include some snaps to show us what the view from your table looks like. Real coffee shop photos and real-life stories.
The Coffee Shop Prompt Week 73 (Jul 11-17)

Above is a question for coffee and cafe lovers which I think I have already answered... I have to justify and give examples.

Looking through the window of my favorite café

My favorite café is tiny. There are no more than ten seats at two small tables and one bigger one, at a large window overlooking an interesting area in the old center of Bucharest.

A small café on a narrow street, Academiei Street, overlooking the center of the old town, with the National Bank headquarters on the left and one of the most interesting hotels on the right, Hotel Marmorosh, housed in an old bank building.

Why do I prefer small cafés?

Because I like to feel welcomed with love and I always feel like I'm among friends, and if I go there alone, the friends are baristas. I always make friends with baristas in the cafes I go to and I've found that it's easiest to do that in small cafes.

I enjoy seeing how the baristas get happy when we approach the café (the window I'm talking about now, seen from outside)

I tried to understand why I liked going to the café so much more than going to the theater, opera, or cinema (my first passions).

For coffee?

For the ambiance?

For the view?

I am thinking of talking about each of these possibilities and now, to answer the initial question, I will say why I like to sit by the window and look at the world as it is in the little place around the café.

We look at people passing in the street or people who have something to do there. I like to see them and try to guess what their purpose is, what they want, where they are going, or why they are standing. In the end, I get film sequences when I understand or is it just my imagination that makes me think I know what these people are doing?

I like to sip my coffee slowly, in small, infrequent sips, so that I can savor the pleasure of the taste that only I can find here. During this time when my mouth and part of my brain are reveling in the taste of coffee, my eyes and the other part of my brain are following what's going on outside the window.

My film

The frame is filled in, in the background, the street and parts of the buildings I mentioned at the beginning. In the foreground I see a policeman struggling to write a ticket for irregular parking and a man, who seems to be out of his job, calmly looking at the policeman.

My friend Dan, a barista, appears in the background, taking a short break and out to talk on the phone. He is also an observer of the above scene.

Then another character appears, the girlfriend of the gentleman in the hat...

IMG_20230820_100347.jpg

Next, I almost forgot to drink my coffee, absorbed by the events on the street. Deepening the observation and appealing to logic and imagination I concluded that the gentleman in the hat may be a pimp and his girlfriend is the one who does the work.

The neighboring hotel is full of tourists, and possible clients.

A new character appears. If we were in the Wild West, this gentleman would have come on horseback. Now the horse has turned into a scooter.

IMG_20230820_100422.jpg

The policeman still couldn't sort out the fine and called for help.

IMG_20230820_100546.jpg

Eventually, the area was cleared. The policeman finished the job and went to rest, presumably, and the gentleman in the hat probably found a commitment for his "girl". Only Dan, the barista, still hasn't finished talking on the phone. Dan is a car enthusiast and almost certainly cars were the subject of the call.

It wasn't a short film. I realized when I saw the coffee was no longer in our cups.

There are several hundred cafes in Bucharest, Romania. According to Trip Advisor, The Coffee Shop Academiei is in 105th place in the favorites of those who wrote a review. Our tastes and needs are so different, from my point of view, this little coffee shop is in the top 10. A purely subjective opinion because I haven't been to too many coffee shops and can't compare, however, of the few I have been to, The Coffee Shop is the best.

Your post made me smile.
It was fascinating to read about the series of events unfolding and the people involved.
I thought about you when this prompt came around, and you haven't disappointed at all.Hello @bluemoon

Lovely storytelling photography and I'm so pleased that you shared this:))))

I thought about you when this prompt came around, and you haven't disappointed at all.

Thank you very much that you thought so! This makes me happy and honors me. I like coffee a lot, but I've avoided being a specialist in brewing (I've had a few failures so far) and in theory. I just prefer to enjoy coffee that I perceive to be good. Because of this, plus the fact that I go to the same coffee shop and can't write about the same place often, I'm afraid you'll think I'm recycling.

Wow. 🤩 Well written piece and made me think a lot. The window shots with those two men baristas is my favourite. So cute! That they are as excited as you are about having a coffee and then making one for you. ☕️

Thank you!
Very well-chosen photo which is also my favorite.

The window is a great invention but I assure you that it changes the perspective in photography a lot. Very nice shots... ;)

Enjoy your holidays at the hotel!

Thank you! You're right that it changes perspective but it often makes the picture more interesting, as do the reflections.
