A Harvest That Feels Like Christmas

As the Christmas season unfolds, our homes begin to glow with golden and silver garlands draped over green trees, adorned with red ornaments and a shining star on top. This festive spirit reminded me of some photos I recently stumbled upon pictures I had clicked during the coffee harvest season, which runs from December to January.

The scene mirrors the magic of Christmas. The vibrant red coffee cherries, ripe and juicy, standing out amidst those still green and growing. It’s a time of hard work and precision, with skilled workers from Assam traveling all the way from the north of India to our estate in the south for selective picking. Their meticulous efforts ensure only the ripest cherries, with their deep red hues and sweet, fruity character, are chosen. These cherries are the secret to a premium cup of coffee, bursting with flavor and quality.

Amid the harvest, you’ll notice the towering coffee trees where some over are over 70 to 80 years old, their sturdy trunks that lived decades of life. Their branches stretch over four feet, clustered with bunches of cherries. This natural abundance makes the picking process more efficient, allowing workers to harvest entire bunches instead of plucking individual cherries.

Once picked, the cherries are carefully packed into GrainPro bags, each holding up to 50 kilograms. These bags are sealed with zip tags to protect the cherries from oxygen, preserving their freshness as they begin their journey into fermentation.

Whoa, for real, 70 to 80 years old? That's amazing 😲🤩. And how many times those trees gives a bountiful harvest to you, a lot for sure. 😻

It gives great crop from 7-40 years and slightly lower crop later on in the coming years.
