Visiting Coffee Shops and tasting their specialties at Melbourne, Australia.

Axil Coffee Roasters is a well known coffee roastery that’s based in Melbourne, Australia. They source exceptional quality green beans from coffee producing countries and make sure they are roasted to perfection. Their focus has always been on sustainability and ethical sourcing practices. This is to ensure that the coffee is not only lip smacking but also socially responsible. They specifically have cafés all around for the customers to enjoy their expertly brewed coffee in a cozy place.

We visited one such coffee shop at the Melbourne Central, Elizabeth Street. I roamed the entire Melbourne Central to find even the massive cookoo clock 😂 but realised the coffee shop was on the bottom floor and situated on other end of the mall.

The cafe was packed with people having their lunch and coffees before leaving for work. Some of their popular beverages were Almond Milk Latte, Wet Chai, Iced Latte, New Orleans Cold Brew and Mocha Chocolate.🍫 While some of their best eateries were Ham Hock Benedict, Fried Chicken PO-Boy and Almond Croissant 🥐

Back in 2009 Axil Coffee Roasters was founded by Dave Makin and Dave Faulkner. They focused on creating a menu that highlights the nuances of the carefully selected beans.

One of their best selling beans was the Single Series Coffee. The coffee is known for having notes of Passion Fruit Yogurt, Orange Sherbet and Blueberry. The product was originally produced at Colombia which is perfect for a delicious filter roast.

Another such coffee in the same series was of Castillo Variety and wonderfully processed as washed coffee. The farm is called Santa Fe, where the coffee cherries 🍒 are fermented for 30 hours before pulping the beans. The beans come from an elevation of almost 2000 masl.

Grabbed a cup for myself while watching the baristas brew the coffees in a pour over. It is quite refreshing to see new frequently introduced and exciting coffees.

La Marzocco is an espresso machine preferred by many coffee shops in Australia. High-Quality espresso is got with the right skill and precision. Excellent espresso shots that are pulled in the best possible way to extract the best flavours.

IMG_6669.jpeg

Not only the baristas make such efforts to pull great shots but also as you can see they garnish the drink not only with latte art but also sprinkled powders of chocolate. A minimum of two baristas would always be available making multiple drinks for the customers. At Melbourne Central I found 5-7 baristas hustling to get their orders done on time.

The Next coffee shop I visited was Brother Baba Budan, Seven Seeds Cafe. Named after the legendary Sufi saint who introduced coffee to India. I absolutely loved how they have depicted the hands on their merchandise. Each Barista had this shirt on and a tied up apron.

Before I left from India, I had asked my coffee friends about the coffees they would like to drink at Melbourne and their preferred Beans. One such suggestion was F BOMB. A Drink with a fruity, juicy, pulpy goodness rich in notes of peach, Blackcurrant and fruit salad.

This renowned cafe is known for its speciality coffee and friendly service. The name Seven Beans refers to the smuggled beans out of Yemen and planted in India by Baba Budan.

A light roasted bean with one of a kind beans from Ethiopia and Colombia. 50% blend of both the goodness, a blend of fully washed beans from both origins. The local Ethiopian farmers from Worka Chelbessa and Colombian producer called Willian Rojas Zambrano.

They had big paper packets upto 1 kg of roasted beans. The bottom racks have cans of coffees that a stored for the cafe. Saw a few customers just grabbing a pack to go while other customers were waiting for their warm cups.

You would have heard of Wine Cask. This is a coffee cask, the aim was to have something other than beer or box wine. A 2L cask that serves for 10 people. A perfect take away to the beach, work, picnic or pool. 😉

Not only is it packed with cardboard but also the tiny drawing of turtles on it, makes us realise that they are all about ecofriendly living. If you have read my previous posts you might already know that the weekend life is a true escape from work and more of family and friends time.

I couldn’t leave without buying two fun packs of beans.

Soon as I grabbed them goodies I reached the cashier. There they had a jar of cookies. 🍪

Behind the counter was a cute Batista who seemed so cheerful and friendly to know about me and the choice of goodies I was carrying with me. I told her that I was a coffee producer from India and that I had a few of our estate beans If she’d like to taste. Immediately I saw her face light up and both the dimples pierce into her cheeks.

Her happiness made me spill out the details of the process our beans had undergone. She was excited to try the yeast fermented robustas and she took some samples to show her boss. All in all it was a worthwhile experience for a foreign producer meeting baristas of different countries.

This indeed was the second best coffee we tried in Melbourne.

I was happily surprised at how much fun this was to find the best coffee shops that were not so far from my sister’s house. I love how they combine two brews of different coffee origins with authentic flavors!

This was an impressive experience! See you on my next coffee shop hunting trip. 🏃🏻‍♀️
