Hello Coffee Lovers,
I had my first coffee and now I'm awake 😄
What can you do with the coffee grounds? Every day I drink at least 1 liter of coffee, so that makes a lot of used coffee grounds. Instead of throwing away all the used coffee, I also use it as a fertilizer for my plants. I only have a small garden with some vegetables and herbs. So once in a while I add the used coffee grounds to the soil.
I did some research first, because not all plants like this black gold. So I'll share some of the information with you:
- Coffee grounds are a source of nitrogen for plants.
- It keeps slugs and snails away from your plants.
- Suppress of weeds near your plants.
- Coffee and coffee grounds can be acidic, so not every plant will like it!
- Worm love coffee grounds and are very good for your garden.
So here is a short list of common plants that like acidic ground:
rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolia, blueberries, carrots, radishes, sweet potato, peppers, beans, broccoli, berries, ...
These plants don't like coffee grounds at all:
tomatoes, geranium, asparagus fern, Chinese mustard,cauliflower, lavender, orchid, rosemary, ...
Also keep in mind not to give your plants too much coffee. This will make the soil too acidic and will reverse the result. So use it with moderation. Another option is to make a kind of "weak coffee" and give that to your plants. Leave your coffee grounds overnight in a bucket of water and use the "weak coffee" for watering your plants (maximum 1 time a week).
I always cheer up after drinking a coffee, now it's time to give your plants a boost!
