The heat has been just unbearable lately. It's as if the sun itself is melting upon skin like popsicles every time I step out, and as it is, I have to step out just about everyday.
Heat leads to headaches and headaches leads to half dead eyes that burn as I splash water on my face to cool off. It's a cycle. A cycle of catastrophic summer that feels far too long for anyone's comfort. August seems like it's miles away still, and we aren't even done with June yet.
This grand monologue of miseries does have a small corner of relief though. And that relief comes in forms of ice blended lattes where caffeine meets cream, and sugar leads to a release of serotonin.
Yes, this me, once lover of tea had long since turned into a frantic chaser for coffee beans. But unlike the usual hot to touch beverage, my addiction is more towards the colder brews.
Coffee and ice seems like a match made in heaven in my head, and when this match meets with a dash of milk, it turns into a concoction fit for emperors. And as I happen to think myself a very kingly person, the affair was inevitable.
What this long winded flowery verse of mine indicates is that I am a coffee drinker and oftentimes, I fill my needs at home. But romance in life, like everything else, never waits, even in the sweltering summer sun, and thus I have to seek confinements in cafes with my other half, in hopes of staying hidden from the melting outdoors.
It was on one of those sudden meetups that we both stumbled upon this hidden avenue in the middle of this ever bustling city, so it wasn't all that hard to walk into the place, not with the air-conditioning calling our names like sirens.
The place was chique and modern, with rustic wooden panels and pristine white tiles. The space between each table was something to admire, for me specially, as I have always found most coffee places to be stuffy with their tendencies to fit as big of a crowd as possible.
While I went ahead and got myself a butterscotch mocha that looked like it could save my soul from drowning in lava, my beloved ordered a kiwi soda, because it seemed that it was only losers who needed caffeine that evening, so there was that.
We placed our orders and stepped aside to wait, and when we got our order, let me tell you, I was not disappointed. The rich smell of coffee and that perfect mix of ice and chocolate melted my heart at the very first sip. I was in love, on cloud number nine, and it only intensified with every mouthful. It has been a very long time since I had a cold blend that tasted as perfect as this did, and I know that mild note of butterscotch alone would keep bringing me back to this place over and over.
Usually, I do not take photos of such ravishing delicacies. Not gonna lie, I may be exaggerating the taste of the drinks a bit more than they deserve, but in contrast to the scorching heat outside we had to endure, along with the not so soothing smell of all the pollutants, the aesthetic atmosphere inside of the cafe, the fragrance of choice, and the more than average finer taste of the drinks managed to enhance the experience for us.
A revisit sooner than possible is due. Especially as I am yet to explore all the other drinks available. Money is a constraint, not gonna lie, and I am yet to start on my new job. But hopefully I'll be able to experience and share them with this fine community of ours quite soon. See yall good people for now.:)
Hey there!
From what you've said, I'm not surprised that you've made a switch to having cold lattes. I think I'll be right behind you in doing that in the coming months:)
May you have cooler days very soon 🤗
