Caffeine Addicts of the Round Table

in Cinnamon Cup Coffee6 months ago

One community here on Hive that I love but don't contribute to much if the Cinammon Cup Coffee, run by my dear @millycf1976. The reason for my frequent silence on there is that while I love both coffee and the community, I seldom take pictures of my caffeinated outings, so often feel I don't have much to say. I'm not a very picky person about the place where I drink my coffee, as long as the coffee itself is good.

However, this week's prompt really tickled me, so here's my two cents' worth.

When at a café, do you have a preference for the shape of the tables? Square or circular, share some snaps of a recent visit with your considerations.

We sometimes find ourselves opinionated on the most random of subjects. I never would've thought I had any particular preference, but I do. I'm a massive round table fan. I don't know why, but there's something about circular tables, a charm that any other type misses out on. Don't get me wrong, I'm down for a square table at a pub or something, but for coffee outings, circularity is a must.

Why?

Perhaps I'm jumping a bit too far here, but I think round tables have a level of intimacy that square or other linear tables lack. With a round table, you have an uninterrupted, flowing circle connecting the people and highlighting that we're in this little adventure together.

With square tables, there's at least one corner between you. The line's cut, the connection's been severed. With someone sitting on the opposite side, you're fighting to bridge four corners between you two, that's four times the line's been interrupted. How could you ever hope to find the same connection?

A cafe visit in Brasov, Romania, from a few weeks back. This particular cafe has a special place in my heart. I had a hot chocolate here during lockdown with my then-boyfriend. Those days, not many cafes let you in without certain papers, so this little place, I remember fondly.

Is that a factor? Might be, on some subconscious level. I don't know. Personally, I just know I prefer little round tables to go with my coffee outings. It's not enough of a deciding factor in the sense that if we see a cute coffee shop, I won't pass just because the tables aren't round. But you know, if you give me a choice between two cafes, I'm picking the one with round tables.

For some reason, it's much easier reaching across a circular table than an angular one. Have you noticed that?

It's probably why, when I was furnishing my apartment, I insisted on a round table. The thrifty side of me kept thinking go for a normal rectangular table. It's cheaper, more available. But I wouldn't budge. Something in me just couldn't tolerate the idea of a rectangular table, even if I hardly use it. Fortunately, I found an off-the-beaten-path furniture outlet that had a nice round dining table that my lovely @ladyrebecca helped me hoist back to the flat (for fear someone might get it if we didn't get it right then xD). My coffee table is round, also. Again, much wider choice in the rectangular section, but for some reason, I just thought nope. It's my house. I'm doing round tables. Even my nightstand's round.

Well, thank you @millycf1976 for helping me discover a bizarre obsession I didn't know I have :D

How are you having your coffee?

It’s interesting you mention that place let you in during lockdown without fussing, we have done the same thing by moving our monthly hive meetings to a more friendly place based on how we got treated during lockdown.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one! I still hold certain sympathies but also some grudges (of the not going in there if I can help it variety) based on how people behaved in lockdown. I'm all for moving with the times and letting go, but that madness was a very valuable insight into people, I found. Whereabouts in the world are you?

I am in Adelaide, south Australia. We have a strong core of hive / crypto free thinkers who meet up regularly. We suffered a bit, but not as bad as friends in other states.

With square tables, there's at least one corner between you. The line's cut, the connection's been severed.

This sounds like ancient philosophy to me, hehe. I agree! But I must think about this carefully before I can say anything about my preferences. You've just made me realize I've never bought round tables, but I'm not sure if the reason is the price 🤭 A square table is usually cheaper, just as a square mind is less interesting 🤔

Have a lovely day, @honeydue 💕

An unparalleled fascination for round tables. You have a very interesting point of view on this topic, believe me, I had not thought much about tables until I read your post.

Thank for sharing your experience with us.☕

Happy weekend.

I never paid attention on the shape of a table when sitting for a coffee, lol, but now seeing this does make more sense for a coffee hangout!

Hahahahahaha I hadn't noticed this detail, I also prefer them round.

WOW! You've delved so deep into this that I'm now thinking about my preferences. I've always liked round tables too, but I will be more observant next time in coffee shops.
This particular prompt was from @grindan, and it's a very interesting one.
I enjoyed reading this, and it's always great to see you pop by here:)))

I know, right? I surprised myself with how deep I went :))) Well thank you @grindan then. A very interesting choice. I'm glad. Been meaning to pop back for ages. Come around for the weekend conversations, but as I say, I'm embarrassed of how few coffeeshop pictures I have in my gallery.

We appreciate you and the other author's participation and engagement in the coffee conversations, and we are open whenever you get the chance to share your coffee stories. You might be a bit like me, I seldom take photos of my coffee and sometimes remember when I'm done...
Have a great weekend... and I will pop in on the conversation later:)))

Hey @honeydue I hope that all is well with you.

Would you be interested in getting more involved in Community roles?

If you are on Discord, I would be happy to discuss it in more detail with you.

Thanks:)

Hey Milly! Yes, I would. That sounds great. Tried adding you as a friend on Discord, but it says you're not accepting friend requests? And according to experts (my 16-year-old brother xD) I can't message you randomly if we're not in mutual servers.

Anyway, I'm @honeydue8397 over there, so hopefully we can connect! Cheers. Thanks for thinking of me!

Here's an invite to the coffee discord.
See if you can get on that way. It's not allowing me to find you. However, I think if you get in, then we could send either invites

Clever woman! I didn't think of that :D

Ah, I am not the most tech-savvy, but let me see if I can invite you to the coffee server first.
Thank you :)😁
