Afternoon of work and coffee. Torrado coffee?

Working at home, but with a coffee.

Happy Tuesday, coffee lovers!

Today mom and I stayed home alone, I took advantage of working on some texts and she knitting, so I decided to prepare a coffee that would serve as a snack and reactivate us to continue working. You can't always have coffee outside the house, in an elegant and delicious place, sometimes you have to drink coffee from home, which is not always the tastiest, but it is always made with love.

Since I arrived in Argentina, I must confess that I miss, a little, the coffee from Venezuela. And it's not that the coffee here is bad, but it's different from what I'm used to and although they sell a coffee similar to the one I drank in Venezuela, it's out of my current budget. Now I understand why my brother brought so much coffee when he visited us last year.

For example, until I got here I had never had "torrado coffee" and here it's the one you get everywhere. It was a totally new term for me and I had to do some research on it. Torrado coffee is coffee that goes through a process in which it is roasted with sugar, but this changes the flavor of the coffee and sometimes makes it bitter. Also, I read somewhere that this type of coffee is prohibited in some parts of the world because during the roasting process a substance that is harmful to the body can be produced.

The coffee I prepared for us today is, precisely, that torrado: La Virginia Torrado Equilibrado. So let's hope that it is not really that harmful to our health. I got it on sale at the supermarket and although it is not one of my favorites, the roast is smooth or balanced, so you don't feel those bitter tones of burnt sugar as much. It is a good option when you are on a tight budget.

Argentines have a predilection for mate, although they also appreciate good coffee; I have not yet adapted to mate, although many of my Venezuelan friends who have been here for a while tell me that it is delicious and even more so if you drink it with something sweet.

I served my mother's coffee with just a little sugar and a little milk for me. I also accompanied it with some delicious cookies. We will have time to get used to mate, although I have faith that better times will come to drink better coffee.

The soft music in the background, the smell of freshly made coffee, knowing that we have each other to support us while each one is immersed in her own project, make this afternoon the perfect afternoon.

What do you think about torrado coffee? Is it true that it is harmful and if it is harmful, why has it not been banned here?

Important: I couldn't find a proper translation for torrado coffee in English, the translator detects it as roasted coffee, but I mean a different process that actually changes the taste of the coffee.
