I love searching for quirky and unusual cafés for my #todayscoffeestop series which I keep on my Fakebook page. Yes, I know I know! But all my friends and family are still on web2, plus I have accumulated a small group of followers on my Fakebook page😄.
Anyway, back to Hivesphere. If you've been to London, you may have seen these underground public toilets. Many are no longer in use and some have been sold off and repurposed. What I'm going to show you today is one such example.
The Attendant was a public toilet built in the Victorian times, that's the late 19th century and has now been converted to a cafe where cool people drink coffee - their words not mine. Follow me inside...
You go down a flight of stairs first, must have been pretty tricky when it was still a toilet and you're desperate...
Then there's a short passage way leading to the inside. Both these photos were taken as I left the café. Snowpea and I was a little excited when we first arrived and forgot to take any photos.
I wasn't sure what to expect inside, and how a toilet could be converted to a cafe. Toilets are pretty small spaces. I have to say, the owners did a very good job. There was a good size serving area on one side of the wall, that took up about one third of the whole area. Next to it were three small sqaure tables at the end of the toilet café.
Opposite the serving area are six seats facing the wall. They're like bar seats, except these used to be....
The urinials 😂😂😂
They've fitted a bar table top across all the urinials, but the pipes and partitions are still there. I haven't seen many urinials in my real life but these ceramic ones are pretty nice. By the way, just to be clear, I'm not a pervert !! I've seen some urinals before as sometimes there are mixed sex toilet cubicles!
I asked my husband if he felt he was drinking coffee inside a toilet. He said the inside doesn't look like a toilet until he sat down. He was sitting directly underneath the tank on the wall. Imagine sipping your coffee in front of a urinal and you pull the toilet flush 😂
Luckily I have no vision what one might have been doing here 100 years ago on this very spot. It just felt a little odd for us to be partitioned off from one another.
And finally, I mustn't forget the actual coffee review. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I found this blend a bit on the strong intense side 😉
What's the most unusual place you've been for coffee?
You found a cafe i would visit but not drink at, haha. The visual scenery would put me off on ordering no matter how sanitary it may be now 😀 Tell me they just serve coffee and not a drink such as a lemonade...Curious if this would enhance one's bladder to go 🤔 All said it is a unique, how many people would repurpose a toilet? Haha
It took me 10 seconds to get lemonade 😂
They do dirty coffee if you want something more fitting with the surroundings 😉
Now you got me thinking they have spouts on the side of the old uninerals. Oh the odd drinks they could have on thier menu. Don't know why my head is brain storming but lumpy coffee is coming in...haha
How odd. And unusual. Well, I must admit you are brave. I wouldn't have coffee in such a place. Although, it worth a visit as it is very unusual ))
It was actually quite nice there, nice and cosy 😁
It's a totally different concept...I've never seen anything like this before. Thanks for sharing your experience.
!PIZZA 🍕
I'm not how many around the world there are, I imagine it's quite a big risk to open one
Very cool! But why didn't you post in the loo loo community 😆😂
It was a toss between the two communities, but I've sorted of neglected loo loo, and the coffee community is much active. Luckily we can cross post
Es muy gracioso sentarse allí y tomar algo sabiendo lo que era antes 😅, aunque todo pasa a un segundo plano al sentir el aroma a café. Saludos desde Colombia
Luckily there were no other smell so I could enjoy my coffee
I've never heard of this concept, and it's ages that I've spent time in London.
Hmmm, I'm such a visual person that I'm not sure if I could separate the two. I'm still seeing 'toilet', and even worse urinal at that 😂
I give credit to whoever conceived the idea though.
I like it, and it would be a great place to take someone who's visiting London for the first time:)))
This was a great post to share with the community👏, and I felt like I was teleported to the London Underground!
🤣, you are not along, include me because I am having wild imagination... 😄
Haha! Yeah, it's crazy:)
Yeah, it had to be shared. Bet you're not going to see another one of these again!
True indeed LUT, this was unique...
I'm scoring @ for quirky and unusual coffee shops for your #todayscoffeestop series, as I think you'll do very well. Greetings from Venezuela.

Thanks for sharing!
Mine too, and they are not coming to web3...😅
😝 I can't stop laughing. I honestly don't know how I feel about that and can't even imagine myself sitting there having a cup of latte... 🤣 For me this cafe is a wild dream...🤣... Great findings LUT...
I guess from an architect pov, this must have been quite an interesting project 😁
FB suspended my account, I didn't even use it for a long time and now it is suspended (there is a message that I still have 63 days to appeal... whatever, I haven't used it anyway for ages)
This was the longest time I have ever spent (while reading your post and looking at the photos) in a public toilet 😂 not to mention in front of a urinal. Ok, the place is cool, so as the board says for cool people. And I am wondering if the owners imagined the idea would work at all and if people would be coming here to have a cup of coffee. They were brave or crazy haha :D It seems they did a good job! 😉
EDIT: sorry, forgot to ask, is there a toilet in this
tolietcafé?Why would FB suspend your account? Thats so horrible even though you don't use it 😡
There were a couple people working on their laptops when I was there, obviously some people have unique taste!!
As to toilet... Good question
😂😂😂☕☕☕
Insane. So they changed the "direction" of how liquid moves inside human body... 🤭🤭
I'm wondering if the cafe has a real modern toilet inside as well? 🤔🤔
Haha!! I hadn't thought about that, now it's all in and no out 😁
The question you failed to address is; Is there a toilet inside the toilet cafe? This missing piece of your post has had my head spinning all day lol!
Haha! The same question seems to be on a few people's mind
What an interesting place, so interesting you have fallen asleep over your coffee!!
Kudos to the developers and architects a brilliant idea to kep an old building alive and kicking.
Now, where in there does one now actually go for a pee pee?
That's my standard pose for my Fakebook post. It's normally taken in front view but it was a bit difficult with the urinals unless I got hubs to climb on top of them... Should have done that 😂
That's such an interesting location. I've never had a coffee anywhere that unusual. It would be weird if it felt like the inside of a public toilet but I would still go check it out even just for the novelty of it
That's what I thought, I'm not in London often, and it was too good and opportunity to pass on
Yeah, it's a cool find for sure!
Hahaha wow such a unique place to make a coffee shop. They did use the space well.
I laughed at seeing the urinals converted into bar /seats area. Hhhmmmm strange idea to sit there to be honest.
Really an unique place. Thanks for sharing 😊
Enjoy your evening 👋🏻
It really felt a little odd sitting there, all part of the 😊
I can imagine… 😊
Wow, that's pretty interesting. I actually like the idea that they had public toilets in the middle of the city like this. Assuming they were able to keep them clean. It's something more cities should do. I wonder how much disinfectant they used before they opened this place!
I read they spent £100k renovating it, the toilet had closed in the 60s, probably too expensive to manage.
I often find public toilets availablity can be quite an issue when I go out, especially when I'm in an unfamiliar city. When we were doing our America road trip earlier this year I had to make sure we had plenty of pit stops as a member of the group has diabetes. Luckily we found a lot of convenient places to stop.
Wow, that is quite a bit. When you are on the road it can be kind of easy except for the long distances you have to travel here, but between gas stations and rest areas it isn't too bad. It just depends on your tolerance for "ick". In the city though, it's tough unless you want to have to find a place to be a paying customer every time you need to go.
Wtf! I don't know if its amazing or weird haha xD
Either way, I think it's one of those places you have to go, just for fun
100%!
I would love to experience it! :D
Maybe I should just open my own coffeeshop in a underground toliet, we have those in Copenhagen aswell :D
Coffee shop during daytime, rave party at night. I read some toilets in London were converted to night clubs, they're probably a lot bigger though
Wow for a bathroom it doesn't look so bad, I think it's a very original idea, a unique cafeteria! jajajja 😁
You can't really tell it's a bathroom, they done a good job
Wow whats an unique and special place clearly made for cool people 😄
Definitely one of the coolest place I've seen for a while
