I'm going through my photo files and noticed that there's still a lot of content from my trip back to Taiwan earlier this year that I haven't posted. One of my favourite past time is to hang around at the many cafes in Taiwan and I've been posting about them for a while. Here's two more for Part 10 of My Favorite Cafe series.
Match Cafe
I can't believe I haven't posted about this in the past 9 series as I used to come to Match Cafe quite a lot. It's one of my favorite cafes.
I love a cafe with a position and a stance, and Match Cafe is at the forefront of this in the city. They are a staunch supporter against dictatorship regimes be it close at home, across the striat or half way around the world.
This is where I wrote the postcards for my postcard experiment a while ago. And when I was here, I got chatting with the girl at the next table. She was planning to come to UK for a holiday in the summer and I gave her loads of traveling trips. I hope she had a good time here.
We mustn't forget the coffee. They do a cracking one!!!
Dan Man Cafe
Don't know why this place is called Dan Man Cafe, I doubt it has anything to do with a man called Dan. Or maybe it does? Maybe TCMD secretly owns it? Who knows 🙃.
Joking aside, this is a really quirky cafe with bags of character. That's what makes a cafe standout, when they have their own unique identity. And a few things stand out here. First, the light blue decor, starting from the outside to indoors. It's very breezy and calm, and makes me think of the Greek islands, a place that I've never been before.
Second, they have loads of air plants hanging all over the walls. Whilst air plants aren't the prettiest of plants, I find them fascinating in that they can grow out of thin air. Wouldn't it be great if money could do that as well!!!
I look up towards the air plants, what a cheeky sign, but so very true!
And finally, the furniture. They have an eclectic selection of quirky tables and chairs. The center table uses an old sewing machine as the base, and the table top and bench are all recycled. The other chair doesn't look comfortable to sit on, but looks great as a ascent chair.
When we original arrived, there was only a table by the front door available (see the second image of this section). Then we realised why. The table and chairs must have come from a school, they were very low. Whilst it's a bit of a novelty, it quickly became quite uncomfortable and cramped. Then another table became available and we moved across. It was an old desk. The marks on the desk top, the scratches from the owner opening and closing the drawers, the contour around the edge of the desk, all signs that that it was a well used and hopefully well loved desk.
Double hearts for Dan the Man the Cafe.
Here's all my previous Favourite Cafe posts, not that anyone would be interested in old posts, but I like to keep them all together so I know where I've been

I'm always delighted to see cafes with Taiwanese influence. I loved the coffee culture there. The setting of that first coffee shop is awesome. Coffee and books are a winning combination of comfort and homely.
I get what you mean about the Greek feel and I love the plants... Yes, it would be fantastic if money grew out of thin air, or if I could wave a magic wand and get just what I want when I need it.
Re-purposed furnishing works, and adds character to any basic place:)))
Oh, and the coffee cup sizes at the bottom are perfect!
Taiwan cafes are so varied and spending time in them is always lovely. Also, writing this series helps to keep my memories permanent, as I don't know when I will be back in Taiwan, and if those cafes will still be around when I do.
It makes me so happy when my desire for an item and my drive for justice coincide. I can see why Match Cafe is so special to you! How funny that you found someone who was planning to travel to the UK, that feels like some sort of fate to me!
Dan Man Cafe is lovely too— I actually had to look up open air plants. It turns out I have seen a few, but they were very different from these. I have a mighty need to precure one now! 😂 The furniture is really fun as well, I like the eclectic feeling. It screams upcycle to me, which is a passion of mine; new life to easily overlooked items. The desk SPOKE to me haha! Thanks for taking us out for coffee with you 😁
Upcycling seems to be the way to go nowadays and if you have an eye for details and design, mix and match pieces can actually work out really well together.
Glad you enjoyed the little virtual tour.
The cafe's ambiance is relaxing and inviting. I love the note they put regarding the no wi-fi. This place surely will help us disconnect to connect. 😊 And do they have triple hearts for the coffee?😊
That notice was ace! We spend so much time in front of our screens nowadays that often we forget how to talk to people.
True. This place would somehow be an aid for an introvert like me. Thanks for sharing to us this beautiful cafe.
You have here a very beautiful of your favorite cafe, indeed the are really beautiful, i love those pictures the

When such places are in Turkey, they are usually very expensive. I have no idea why XD Still, I like to visit places with this kind of concept from time to time 😂
Is that because cafes are positioned as a trendy lifestyle place in Turkey? I get the feeling tea is more popular in Turkey because when I read about the other Turkish authors going on hikes or picnics, they always talk about making tea.
Yes, it usually is. Tea is very popular in Turkey but I don't know why. It's a great drink in winter but I can't stand drinking tea in this summer heat.
We have a store in town called Dan Dan the Mattress Man. I bet you can guess what he sells. I wonder if they are related :) These look like some cool cafe's! I just found out a little bit ago about a tea house near where I live. I keep trying to get over there to check it out, but I haven't made the time yet.
Dan Dan the Mattress Man 😃 😁 Do you know dan sounds like bounce in Cantonese, how fitting for a mattress company.
That is quite fitting! I actually went to high school with Dan. Believe it or not, that's not his real surname 😃
It would be fantastic if money decided to emulate the air plants😅.
Both of the cafes you showed today had their very unique details. Visiting the Match cafe on a busy Monday would be a great way to boost ones energy.
Then, I would personally visit the Dan man's cafe on days when I need total tranquility.
All the same, both the cafes have amazing feels to them. In the end, what matters most is how relaxed you feel when sipping your coffee. Thank you for sharing with these amazing cafes with us.☺️
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed your little virtual trip and thanks for dropping by
The pleasure is all mine.
Those are some cool cafes!
yeah, Taiwan has load of these cool cafes, as you may well know 😀
You find some great cafes ! I love the plants on the wall in the second one !
