Good morning! This is a nice coffee conversation to start with. If my friend offered me these two, I would choose the French press because it is easier to use, I like richer coffee, and I can play with the servings, like how much water I should add to it. And yes, honestly speaking, one of my friends really did give me a French Press. She has been a generous friend since college. I always cooked for her when we were sharing the same dorm room. She always appreciates it.

I started in the world of coffee with coffee made in a moka pot; it wasn't until about ten years ago after I started drinking coffee that I learned about coffee made in a French press. The waitress brought our dessert and the coffee inside a cute French press; she pressed down the plunger, smile and left. The smell was oh! It was one of the best coffees I've tried in my life.
She knew that I really loved coffee and that, at the time, she was already married to an American man and ready to leave the Philippines for good, so she gave me a French Press. But she said, "You have to buy your own ground coffee for this." Hahaha. She is so hilarious! Fair enough.
A gift that was worth it. Those are friends that should be kept by our side and most importantly, they knew your tastes and gave you a gift based on your preferences.

French press is a really nice choice. It will always give you a cup of tasty coffee! And it can brew you a cup of excellent tea too! So it is also a better option if you want a multi purpose brewer!

I have never handled a French press, but I have seen friends do it and I agree with you that it is a more “artisanal” method and therefore more appropriate for entertaining.
