Airport Coffee

This is my first ever enty in this community (which is extremely weird, since I live off of coffee and probably drink it more than I should). That being said, nice to meet everyone here ✨

It’s been a while since I posted Hive. With moving to a new country, trying to find a place to live, getting a new job, adapting to a new place and trying to squeeze living my life into a tight schedule, it was a bit of a task to force myself to write anything.

Now that I’ve settled down a bit, I finally have the energy and mental capacity to write again.

Unfortunately for me and my wallet, I always end up being a victim to the "Airport Coffee" scam. Now I don't know what it is exactly, my very early flights that I keep choosing or just boredom you inevitably face when you have to wait to board a plane for a couple of hours. Alas, this time was not an exception, and in my quest to find a place to get some water I found an airport cafe and ended up getting coffee as well.

Now, I believe there's one thing that everyone universally agrees on is that airport coffee is mediocre at best: very lazy design and not the best flavour, that definitely do not justify the price. But I believe this Costa coffee experience has been by far the worst airport coffee experience I've ever had.

The funny thing is in the entirety of Tbilisi I haven't seen a single Costa, yet for some reason there was in the airport, which was already kind of weird. But the interior didn't look bad, so I decided to give it a go. A very cute, tidy design, with modern elements to it — it checked all the boxes of a generic trendy cafe.

The cup designs weren't bad either: the first Christmas design I saw in this city so far. I kind of missed when cafes did this. For some reason, in Tbilisi it isn't a very common concept. At least for now, it might change with December coming.

So all these variables taken into consideration, I had the audacity to think that I would be greeted with a nice, almost $10 (!) coffee. (For reference, at a regular cafe in Tbilisi the average price for coffee is about $3).

I don't think anyone will be surprised to learn that the coffee was...horrible. I wasn't able to finish it. Not only that, it made me feel slightly sick as well. Thankfully I got better right before the flight, drinking water definitely helped.

Moral of the story: if you're anything like me — try your hardest to avoid airport coffee. It's never good, it's ridiculously overpriced, it in fact doesn't help you wake up or stay awake. (Hopefully, I will remember this on my flight back, wish me luck).

Hi and welcome :) I actually have a sentimentality towards Costa coffee, but that's due to my own connections with the place/brand rather than the quality (which could be improved upon, for sure!). Airports are horrible thieves, and as you say, we do tend to fall for them for one reason or another. Me, I like to get up early, even for early as hell flights and have my coffee at home if I can manage it. It's assured quality and a waaay lower price :D So might be worth waking up 30 minutes earlier next time.

By the way, how is/was Tbilisi? I'm reading about a lot of unrest in the news...

That is so true!

There were protests before I left, but not to this degree. But as far as I know it’s mostly concentrated in the main square in central Tbilisi.
