Is Starbucks going to compete with local brands in the grab n go sector?
Ready to drink starbucks isn't actually something new. In bigger cities, they already sell glass bottled frappuccinos which I love too but now, they are expanding the market to even in the middle of nowhere. I found out just yesterday when I was buying milk from the convenience store. Apparently this was already viral and people were hyping over it because it cost less than starbucks coffee at the cafe. These two variants below only cost $1 and also double shot.
As anoverpriced coffee addict, I welcome the option to drink $1 Starbucks anywhere, even in a small town. I would save so much on traveling to another city just to buy a few packs of grinded starbucks beans. At the store, I told myself that if it tastes similar or even better, I am buying every stock that the supermarket has and just fill my mom's fridge with canned starbucks. Since last night, I was too caffeinated. I just tasted it this morning and the taste was.....
worse than anticipated
It has a similar taste to nescafe but much smoother. It's not as strong as those you get from starbucks or even homemade ones from starbucks beans. Although compared to local brands, Starbucks taste smoother too and is suitable if you have acid reflux and still want coffee. So, despite the claim of double shot, do not expect to have the same taste as when you buy it from Starbucks. I mean it's understandable, it's just $1 coffee and everywhere, even at cafes, coffee at that price is hit or miss. Maybe it's just me and my liking to strictly LATAM coffee instead of Indonesian ones. Although in this case of canned starbucks, they are actually imported and I haven't checked what kind of beans they use. I am pretty sure in the US they have these canned but now I wonder how they actually taste compared to here.
What I appreciate is the can that looks quite exclusive just like how starbucks is marketed in the country, an exclusive brand and catered to middle to upper class. Comparatively, it is also more expensive than other brands. So, if you enjoy local brands, it's totally not worth it. But for a simple kick, Starbucks canned will do. Will I buy more? maybe yes maybe not because I don't really like its taste and would rather just buy starbucks beans and brew it at home.

For one buck it’s really nothing to be expected from the coffee at all. Just the canning process and all the logistics maybe take half of the price. Yet, the cans look very unique. I’ll probably give it a try if I had the chance. I remember that when I travelled in Japan there are quite a lot of these canned coffees and some of them are pretty good. The prices are maybe similar to this, about $1.
Canned coffee is pretty popular in Asia especially in big cities where they have the need for grab and go instead sitting at a cafe. I personally avoid them cans when I can but sometimes in the middle of nowhere and needed a quick fix, they are my savior😂 although that starbuck one is definitely the most expensive canned coffee in Indonesia atm.
My last Starbuck was 2021 haha, well we were away from the city, and local coffee coffee also have some expensive variant. Here in the Philippines the canned coffee from SB also trend yet I don't see some in local convenience store nearby. Hmmmm comes my curious taste buds again, I shall look for online shops to filled my curiousness.
At the moment, I live in a small town away from SB so it's nice to know there's that option to get a cheap $1 SB although taste wise, it's a joke. It's pretty much similar to Nescafe canned coffee too. Maybe you have these online there? because here it's hard to find SB without going to SB cafes.
I was about to tell you about this starbucks canned coffee. I think you really might love this version, so you can still drink your starbuck while on the go. Now you have made the review, next time I should try to buy it to fill my curiosity. hahah.
😂 yeah, it's only good if you're being curious haha but really just buy Nescafe macchiato and it'll tase similar especially that espresso latte.
I was thinking of trying these and it was so nice to see this post. The last time I went to Starbucks it was so crowded and I don't like wasting time in line. I was thinking of getting one of these and I like the soft stuff. Maybe you just don't like that kind. I'm sure there are more types and if you try them you might like them. There's no harm in trying. Especially if you're a coffee addict 😅.
Do you have those stuff in Turkey? the reason I write this was because this canned version is really new and rolled out recently at many convenient stores around the country. There's only 2 variants because Starbucks isn't a common coffee but catered to high end consumers. Now, they are targeting regular market through their canned coffee and I am not sure if people going to like it since the taste is similar to Nescafe Macchiato at even lower priced.
I'm not 100% sure I saw it, but I remember seeing it in the market. I'm going to the market soon. I'm not sure I'll be able to find this coffee because it's a local market, but if I do, I'll let you know about it. If I can't I'll go bigger markets this weekend. I'll let you know then 😅
Hmm, that's interesting to note. So I guess it's a good marketing strategy to grab the attention and entice Starbucks lovers, but just not good enough, so that you still feel the need to visit their shops?🤷 Or maybe just there are more varieties to try? Nice photos though:)
Their goal was diversifying their market since Starbucks in Indonesia is considered a high-end/luxury chain as the cheapest is around $3.20 for a basic tall latte. With this canned stuff that's sold in convenient store, it's game changer for them and they hope to attract more people into trying their product. But for starbucks lovers, I don't think they'd like this canned stuff haha not me especially.
But yeah, their design of the can is marketing level :)

Yep! the taste is similar to nescafe macchiato haha so not that worth it. But it's nice to have that option when I am away from starbucks or running out of their beans.

I don't think it's there yet even in Indonesia there's only a handful of them and not a lot to be fair.
I've seen those around or similar starbucks products. They look like they would be handy in a pinch but I probably wouldn't drink them regularly myself. I'd probably just make my coffee and put it in a thermos. Still, it's nice to have options.
Yep, I am sure they're around somewhere than here. In a small town those are rarely found compared to bigger cities, hence why. It's not always convenient to make coffee in a thermos especially when I am traveling hehe.

I have a love/hate with Starbucks. I think their coffee is wildly over rated and their OTC products are not the peak of the trade. But they are readily available and pretty consistent. Yes, I have a card and a balance on it.
When I am travelling I do end up with some of the canned product. Usually late in the afternoon when I need a boost to finish the day or when I'm actually staying in a motel and will need a caffeine source before any store is open. For that specifically they suit my purpose well.
Over priced and under the taste threshold. That about sums it up for me.
I truly like to 'find' good local roasters in my travels for my daily needs. On my summer trip I ended up with Folgers because I forgot to buy coffee at a mid sized town and ended up in Paulina, OR population 45. It turned out to be a good thing because my covid went active and I had to camp for a couple extra days. At least I had plenty of coffee and water...
@bigtom13 Hey Tom! I hope you're fine and thriving. You're right on Starbucks consistency which is something I totally like compared to most cafes. Although now, living in a small town with no access to it, I have to travel far just to get starbucks beans. With this accessible cans, I feel like I won't miss it much and not to mention, saves cost.
I only have a local cafe that I frequent to because the atmosphere is good yet the coffee was okay-ish but still better than the rest of the cafe in town. But like you though, these canned stuff is something I rely on when I am on the road and needed a quick fix otherwise, I'd rely on cafe/local coffee shop.

Ohhhh, boy. Can relying on local shops ever be hit or miss. You probably don't know, but you can hardly get a decent cup of coffee in Utah. Mormons don't drink coffee so they have no incentive to make it better, or something like that. It's REALLY bad.
So. One of the very best local roasters I have found in my travels is in Kaibab, Utah. Don't ask me how, I do not have a theory. I do stop and get coffee when I am anywhere in their footprint. Which isn't very big.
There was a shop in Joseph, Oregon. A dump of a place, but the sign said coffee shop so my friend and I went in. The place looked ready to fall down, the internet was just barely there, but the art and coffee and decor were amazing. We were in a bit of a hurry but we spent an hour there-drinking our first coffee and taking another with us. What a pleasant surprise on an epic ride.
Once you know the quality of the coffee shop the Starbucks cans can come into play pretty quick :)
I never once tasted a coffee on starbucks, but I really want to try it. It's just that, aside from it is so pricey - we don't have that in our place too, lol. I'm not a coffee lover but I like to drink some every once in a while - just thr instant coffee tho, lol. 🙈🙈
@ruffatotmeee See, that's the same problem what I have now, no availability of it anywhere near. So, with this affordable one, anyone can get it from just about anywhere. Who knows if PH starts having these too, that would be nice well, for people who are curious about it at least hehe
For $1 I would buy it even if the taste was not so good, but as things are I think that if I see it in my country Venezuela, this can of coffee can cost more than $5 or even $10.

LOL I was wondering what you'd think. Personally I think they're awful, but we have way better coffee option than starbucks anyway. We need to find a way to ship you some Peet's French Roast, that shit is fire for an everyday coffee. It's like mid-tier price with top notch quality. I haven't found anything better under a buck a cup.
@clayboyn I am pretty sure you got some more over there cause geographically closer to colombia and the rest of LATAM haha. We hardly find a good one over here and the local ones aren't my cup of coffee. I had a few dark roast but would still prefer medium roast unless something changed my mind :D
Hmmm I suppose my favorite medium roast is probably Starbucks breakfast blend, which is weird because it's pretty much the only Starbucks coffee I drink. Usually I'm going for dark roast, but it's got to be good/smooth dark roast or it's usually too bitter. That's why I like Peet's, it's just silky smooth.
Yes! Starbucks breakfast blend is the shit, it's what I drink at home these days but just ran out of them a few days ago. I gotta restock otherwise I'd be a zombie looking for coffee.

On my end of the world, coffee isn’t really a thing, we prefer tea.
Most people including me only drink coffee (Nescafé to be precise) when attending a vigil, to keep them awake and energized throughout the service.
So Starbucks aren’t getting our money with this new product 😂
