Long story short… I started drinking my coffee with sugar. What happened?

You won’t believe that this really happened, will you? But it is true. I was forced to do that in order to make my coffee drinkable.

No, not that coffee… this may be the last espresso shot out of this coffee bag of Geisha coffee and I’m really enjoying it sugar free! The coffee that I was forced to drink with sugar was in my office… just see that!

You can guess which beans are the Geisha and which are the other! And although this coffee in the office cost about $40 per kg, it was roasted pitch black and you can smell this even before brewing it and with your eyes closed. It smells like charcoal and ashes and it tastes even worse…

And the only way I could possibly drink this was with sugar added. This bitterness needed some balance and sugar was the only way. Sadly this wouldn’t eliminate the charcoal taste. The sad reality is that there are people that like this taste and buy this product. If you think a little bit, one kg of cheapest specialty coffee costs about $45 which is relatively the same price. But the taste you get? You have nothing to compare it with.

Even the darker roasts (on the right) of Dabov specialty coffee seem not roasted at all when put aside this “extraordinary” coffee. Before this coffee, I was in charge of buying coffee for the office and I was choosing cheaper, but a lot more drinkable coffee varieties. Since my bosses’ pod machine got damaged, he started buying “premium” coffee for the workers’ machine. And that’s the time when things got screwed.

Anyway… let’s go for a more pleasant topic!

It’s Saturday! And it’s not only time for my coffee post, but also it’s time for some family time. My pregnant wife wished pancakes for breakfast before we went to bed and I, as a loving husband took the task by heart. Luckily, I have a big helper by my side.

Usually he is the one that helps his mother with the pancakes, but this morning because we were the earlier to wake up it was his task to help his father with the breakfast… or his father had to help him, don’t know which describes the situation better!

He has helped his mother so many times with these pancakes that he already knows the ingredients and the steps for making them tasty. He even assembled the mixer by himself! And he was lucky because the mixer had its motor back from the grinder! 😁 Just joking, the motor never left this mixer.

Soon, the party was joined by the little guy too. He brought his own chair that he needed to supervise the project for a tasty breakfast. And although he wasn’t woke up completely yet, he seemed ready to help.

Well, the ingredients were already mixed and ready to be baked. Chef Dosev is in charge, you want some tasty pancakes?

While the big guy is taking care for the breakfast, the little guy has already prepared for eating. He cannot stand the pleasant aroma. We are all ready and we only wait mommy to wake up and join us.

Time to brew some coffee from Ethiopia? I think we won’t need sugar with this one. It arrived just yesterday and I cannot wait to try it. I am excited every time I receive a specialty coffee delivery. It never gets boring to open the box and inhale the lovely scents of freshly roasted coffee.

Filter in the game! Brew, brew, brew!

Now that everything is ready and the table is set, it’s time for breakfast. Let the weekend be as good as it starts! After all, we are the only masters of our time and our experiences. Do you want your weekend to be extraordinary and exciting? It’s in your hands.

See you soon and have a pleasant weekend!
Bye!

I panicked when I saw the title. I'm happy that sugar was only temporary to mask the taste.
Your little ones are learning and doing well. It's great to get kids involved 🙌

We are happier when the kids are involved in household tasks. They have less time to think about what they shouldn’t do. 😁

Sorry for the late reply. I saw your comment and thought that I have replied you until today when I saw I actually haven’t. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This bitterness needed some balance and sugar was the only way. Sadly this wouldn’t eliminate the charcoal taste.

Ah I've been there! But somehow even adding sugar doesn't really make it better isn't it? That was my experience anyway. When the brew is that bitter, the only way that works "to some extent" is adding a bit of milk. Sugar alone just didn't work for my palate. But the fact is, these brews are often unsalvageable in my opinion 😅

Sugar did it doable… I don’t think it did it particularly better. The only other option was to throw it into the sink! 😁
It should be illegal to roast coffee that dark in my opinion… 🤷🏻‍♂️

I feel dark roast coffee beans are good for flavoured drinks to get that coffee taste with in them but just as its own it is kind of hard to swallow.

You may be right, because the other ingredients will balance its bitterness. But just dark roasted coffee is a big NO! 😁

I love pancakes. Y'all didn't add sugar to the mix? Just eggs, milk and flour?
And there are people who really like bitter coffee. I love it when I'm in an awful mood. I want it like my mood. Bitter and angry. It helps me because at that moment, it is strong enough take my mind off my sour mood.

Your boys are really beautiful!

We added a little bit of sugar in the mixture, of course! They turned out very tasty.

I do to know, every person prefers his coffee differently, I sometimes also like to drink a little bit darker roasts, but this is just overdone in every way that is in my head. 😁

Thanks for stopping by!

It was a pleasure😁

So incredibly clever to train the kids to make breakfast. Hehe
Soon you’re going to have three rather than two trained “helpers”
Coffee and breakfast look totally scrumptious.

Now they are big enough to start helping a little bit! Hopefully they will help with the baby too. Thanks for stopping by!

That coffee sounds pretty terrible. Luckily you have the good stuff at home.

At home I’m pretty well prepared! 😁
I never thought I was gonna put sugar in my coffee at some moment, but rough times came… 🤣
