Cafe Amazon is a Thai coffee chain with over 2400 branches scattered about Thailand. They are owned by the huge oil company, PTT with each of their Petrol stations having its own branch.
The main complaint I have about coffee shops in general in Thailand is that their opening hours are very short, often 8am until 5pm but at least this particular branch opens at 7pm and closes at 8pm. This branch at Hua Thanon, just down the road from me on Koh Samui and right opposite the Guan Yu shrine has one other huge thing going for it. It’s amazing location!
Just try to imagine it with beautiful blue skies and crystal clear waters or a beautiful moonlit night with the fairylights on!
The wife and I managed a couple of hours off one day this week and after a quick trip to the supermarket, decided to call in on the way back for a coffee. The rain was banging down and there was even a slight breeze. This is November and is definitely the worst weather month on Koh Samui. It rains most days.
So, despite the wife not being a coffee drinker, Amazon do a range of iced teas and frappes which she loves, and we’d often call in when we were on the road commuting between Saumi and Bangkok last year, getting a free drink per month from her phone contract probably means more than the taste to her!
Admittedly a rather cliched interior design these days but it works for me!
Whatever the branch, they always have really nice well-kept gardens. They are modern and simple and are always clean. The service is always efficient and the staff polite.
However. Even though I have often mentioned that I’m not much of a connoisseur when it comes to coffee, one cappuccino is very much like another to me, in Amazon, the coffee is awful. Perhaps awful isn't the correct word to use. It's just bland and non-descript and doesn't really taste of anything. I only order hot coffee, in this case a cappuccino but it was just like drinking warm, slightly flavoured milk. My other big complaint is the size of the drinks. They’re always so small but then again, not expensive. A standard sized hot drink comes in at about 50Baht (£1.10 GBP, $1.40 USD) so it's very reasonably priced, especially compared to Starbucks but this doesn't make up for the fact, the coffee is dreadful.
As well as the cappuccino, we ordered a green slushy thing, a blueberry cheese pie and some chocolate brownies.
Not really very inspiring, is it? Please excuse the wife's toes!
The wife, as always loved her green slushy thing and the brownies weren’t bad, but the blueberry cheesecake pie was a bit poor, mostly consisting of blueberry jam and crust.
For the digital gonads on the island, the internet speeds here are very quick and with no one hassling you to keep buying and the drinks being so cheap, Amazons are one of the goto places to sit in front of your MacBook and hustle but with a view (better when the sun is out!) like this, it would be easy to get distracted!
There was also a little restaurant at the back that may be worth a try one evening.
I still say that coffee shops are more about the environment and how they make you feel than the coffee, but there are always exceptions. For me at least, Amazon is that exception!
I might not care about the taste of the coffee or the sides, but this place is beautiful, so much green, you can even begin to taste a different flavor entirely when you are taking the coffee.
Is that a shoe or is your wife crossing her leg?
Hi mate :-)
It's the nice thing about living on a tropical island, we get the amazing greenery and the beach! This isn't one of the best beaches by far but I just love being near the sea. All around the island there are small independent coffee shops right on the beach so we're spoiled for choice, or would be if we could get some time off work!
The wife is sitting crosslegged on the chair, lol! Thats how she, and a lot of Thais often sit on a chair. Its the same way that they sit on the floor. Old habits die hard and these modern inventions, like chairs, can cause bewilderment lol
I know you're big into crypto so I hope you're making some good profits right now. Who knows, if this good continues, it may be you sat by the beach in Samui on your laptop drinking coffee!
Keep hustling, both for cash and your health.
Take care mate, see you here soon I hope :-)
Amazing to be ge spoilt for choices really, I could have imagined that this was one of the best places on that island. I think it's because we don't really have a lot of places like this with decent greenery and tranquility, but I'll love to be somewhere as this enjoying the wonders of life lol
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I'm hoping for a decent alt season by January, so I can really take care of the health and family and maybe someday get to leave this country and go exploring
Cheers and take care too.

Thank you @cinnccf . Best wishes to you for a wonderful weekend too :-)
A simple Caffe Americano with a pastry will do for as long I have that beachside view 😍.
That atmosphere sounds incredible... perfect for relaxing by the beach even if the coffee isn’t top-notch!
Good morning. You're right. it's only the vibe and the view that matter :-)

@untilwelearn thank you very much. Always appreciated.
Best wishes :-)
I'll pass the classless coffee and go for this place. The scenery is amazing and your narration is just as excellent. Great.
Hi Kei, thanks for dropping by. Location and vibe is everything and thank you for such a kind compliment.
Best wishes and have a wonderful weekend :-)
Hello @nathen007
Surrounding area really perfect to get inspiring. I would love to have time there.
The pastry maybe is not really perfect, but the coffee still good, right?
Hello my friend and thank you for dropping by.
The coffee wasn't great either to be honest, but the location certainly made me forgot how bad it was!
Best wishes for a wonderful weekend :-)
Yeah sometimes the meal or drink not perfect but the place will make all bad turn into good thing to enjoy
Happy weekend
8am to 5pm, that's a steal!! A lot of cafes, particularly the small independent ones close at at 3pm or 4pm.
You know, you're absolutely right. I don't know why I think it should be different here. Same as in the UK, the mall coffee shops and cafes stay open longer. Perhaps because here, we only have one little mall that's on the direct opposite side of the island to me, I hardly get over there so forget about it.
Seems I'm just moaning for the sake of it again! This is why I just drink 7/11 takeaway coffee on the beach each morning at 6am, it's all I can get at that time!
Hope you've had a great weekend and been on some more amazing adventures!
Beautiful photos. Thailand has beautiful beaches.

Thank you. It certainly does :-)
Aw, that is a shame cos the locale and the place look great. If only they cared a wee bit about making the coffee right! Or maybe they just get cheap nonsense which always tastes rubbish!
I think just a cheap local chain for local tastes. It matter not, just a nice place to sit and chill for an hour but of course, there are literally hundreds of independants on the island serving decent fayre and many of them are right on the beach. We're spoilt for choice but when the wifes phone flashes up the word 'free drink', there was only one place to go on this occassion lol
I hope you and the family are having a great weekend :-)
We are indeed having a good one!
Aye, mine is the same when one of her apps vibrate her phone with a free cake or coffee. Off we go regardless of what they place is like 🤣🤣
Felicidades 😊👏
I think that's one of the best Cafe Amazon I've seen? Honestly I've only been to a few in Thailand but my favorite was this in Laos where it was near the Mekong River. To me the coffee in Amazon is so-so much like 7/11 or Tao Bin.
