Dear Cinnamon Cup Coffee Community,
It is with uttmost sadness and regret that I write to inform you that I am no longer drinking the bean. No more shall the bitter yet earthy taste of coffee pass my lips. No longer will I wax lyrical about perfect crema or the chocolate berry taste of a new blend at my local. No longer will I make a perfect camp coffee on a Jetboil with an expresso machine, or listen to the delightful hum of my Smeg coffee machine creating my third morning brew.
No longer will I feel the bite and kick of the caffeine bronco jump and buck through my veins. No longer will I have a cappucino moustache, coffee breath, or spill coffee grounds over the kitchen bench. No longer will I argue the merits of coconut or oat milk with coffee, and how it is much better than soy or cow's milk.
Why, you may ask, extending sympathy toward my plight. What madness as possessed you? Is there something you have done wrong?
My poor adrenal glands are fed up. They just can't cope anymore. Whilst other people can have coffee on an IV drip, one sip sends my heart racing and my adrenals heading again toward burn out, where I am so far fatigued that not even a good Yirgacheffe can get me going. No, I need licorice tea, and hops, and other sedative brews. At a pinch, a good cup of English breakfast. I need to take care of those little glands, responsible for hormones that help regulate my response to stress, my metabolism, immune system, and you know, my quality of fucking life.
I'm already feeling better. Sure, I had a week's worth of crying, and headaches, but I am getting over it now. A strong cup of cacao and reishi seems to do the trick. I feel more even-keeled, more calm, less jittery, and it's sure nice to NOT feel like I'm having a heart attack every waking moment.
My question to you Coffee Cup crew is: do you accept posts that talk about the coffee I can't drink, the cafes that my husband drinks coffee at, or the various other delightful coffee subsitutes, like a really good chai, or a turmeric latte?
Because, dare I say it, I have realised yet again that there are other drinks that please and nourish me and give me a little get up and go - caffeine just can't join the party anymore.
With Love,

I think you have a good excuse for not drinking coffee, so I will let you off. I do like a turmeric latte though. I hope you can still join in.

I like a turmeric latte, or a good spicey chai!
I'm in total agreement with your reply.

It's it am April Fool? Are you really giving/given up the brown nectar!?
This was my 2nd thought too! π
You have to be careful on a day like today!!
Sounds like a sad farewell, I guess it's the caffeine you're not into anymore?
Tried decaffeinated maybe?
Tea, best drink of the day. Not the green tea nor the gen z fucking fruit tea, But good strong Black tea.
Must be honest I have never understood the "love" of coffee.
I am glad to learn you are managing without coffee. I love coffee so much but I needed to cutdown as well. And I like my coffee black.
Once you get through the withdrawals you are fine until the person next to you starts brewing Vietnamese weasel and the aroma eats at you. Oh caffeine.... why do you have so much control over humans on this planet?
Sorry to hear that. I'm sure those headaches were part of your withdrawal period.. Sending prayers your way
Had a month or so fasting from The Bean over the winter. It got my sleeping schedule back in order which was a great plus. Changes in diet has been my pushback to the Big Pharma hooks as my three score and ten warranty is set to expire. π
That's it right, getting your circadian rhythm back on track - how the modern world fucks with it!
Ohh...that sucks! No one likes diet or any food restrictions
April FOOL! Thatβs me. Damn I read every word with sorrow in my heart; I could see your tears and feel your erratic heart beating (at a determined pace). Then I LOL π Hehe!
Oh my goodness, i didn't even know it was April 1 when I posted and everyone thinks it's a joke - it's cracking me up!!!!!
Oh, dear! π₯²
This sounds like your break up letter to coffee π thats a real thing they do in addiction treatment sometimes lol
Oh do they? Great idea. Yes, it is a break up letter - as I wrote it it made me feel better for giving up!
I had to give up my beloved English Breakfast tea, again. Currently it's hot cocoa in the morning, and it's just sips, so the cup lasts all day. So far, stomach has not rebelled...
Caffeine and I have had a love/hate relationship since I was a teenager. I could never stand the taste of coffee, not even things like mocha ice cream. Ick! So it's always been tea, and I often have to go long periods without it.
I don't know how we all ended up hooked on coffee. I'm sure it was never like that as I grew up. Tea all the way. Mabye it's a symptom of our fast paced lives.
I'm sorry for your loss.
but this is very funny!
Hahaha thanks - I'm cracking up that everyone thought I was joking as I unwittingly posted on April 1!
Wow, that is a huge step in the right direction. I am sure your glands will recover soon and with the right foods for Adrenal support, you will really get your energy back. I love watching Dr.Berg on youtube. He has a lot of great videos on supporting the body's organs and so forth. Best regards.
My Mom also suggests I should lessen my caffeine in-take, but I just can't, yet! :((
I mean, coffee is my energizer!!!

Can't imagine if coffee drink is abandoned then what drink.... hahahaπ, i know this is "April Fool." You have such good write and beautiful choice of well organized words. I enjoyed reading.
πNot april fool - it's for real hahaha! Thanks fo ryour comment.
I had to give up caffeine a few years back. I didn't drink coffee, but I drank cola a few times a week and tea like an English woman πevery hour on the hour at work lol... and at one stage was drinking a couple of red bulls a day to chase the sun during a time of extreme work stress. At first, my eyelids started twitching when I would drink tea from the machine at work. I was convinced there was something wrong with the machine. But then I started getting heart palpitations and panic attacks and my doctor said he thought I had developed a sensitivity to caffeine (i happen to think it was a combination of excessive caffeine intake for my body together with hormonal issues). I dropped the red bulls, the cola, and the tea, opting only for decaf tea. I went through headache withdrawals and things stabilised a little. But then when I would on rare occasions have a couple of cups of regular tea with caffeine... It would start all over again with an elevated heart rate. My doc said... Did you cut out caffeine? Yep, I said... Altogether? Yep! Noooo he said... have a little each day because having none means that you will now become more sensitive to it than you were before! Now I don't know how true this is, but I started drinking a healthier version of cola called Green Cola - one a day to get some caffeine in my system. And it helped. Now I have a little balance of having something to kick me when I am tired at night but want to be awake a bit longer... and I don't suffer from palpitations... granted... I am now on HRT patches too... but I know for sure that the reduction in caffeine saved my life first... and HRT rescued me all over again. I hope you find the perfect balance for you. The side effects of too much caffeine in our diet are not to be sneezed at... at now I have a new fabulous friend... Oat Chai Latte! Smitten! !LUV !hivebits

I guess you're joking, right?
I have a love-hate relationship with coffee. If I drink too much eventually after a few days it will start giving me headaches, and if I drink too little... well, there's that damn caffeine withdrawal to deal with. It's like I'm damned either way. I've been told that too much = headaches is common because it messes with your cholesterol and that triggers headaches for some people.
I was off it for about 3 months. But recently started drinking it again. Need to get off it again and go back to just tea only.
I hear you. Every time I give up somehow it sucks me in. But after nearly two weeks of withdrawals I'm not too keen to slide again. My sleep is better and my nervous system isn't as wired. I've been enjoying tea again, and uncaffeinated drinks.
Good luck quitting again!
Ah this is tough! My wife ran through a similar situation though sadly. Her adrenals were pissed at her as well as her stomach so she had to give it up. Sheβs doing a lot better since then and Iβve given up caffeinated coffee in favor of decaf on the days that I can make a cup but mostly various teas. Iβve been really liking consuming the various teas that are in our cabinet! Weβve had some interesting purchases over the years and Iβm sucking them down lol. Some have been an absolute no go while others have stuck around.
