The ups and downs were totally worth it!

We have all seen successful people in life haven't we. But how often have we stopped for a moment to wonder what it really takes to be "successful?" Do you just simply climb the stairway to success?

No. We don't see the struggles, the slipups on the slippery stairway. We don't see the sleepless nights it takes, we don't see the skipped meals. Just like the ups and downs on the tradingview charts we are watching so closely in anticipation of the imminent bullrun, life is also full of ups and downs.

Life is going to knock us down, that's what it does. Life is a bitch. It is what it is. But it is entirely up to us whether choose to get back up or not.

That, ladies and gentlemen, brings me to my favourite coffee cup! A hideous, fugly coffee cup that I hold very close to my heart!

This cup was gifted to us at our Med School graduation ceremony. I don't know if the picture shows it clearly, but it is kinda an oddly shaped mug. Almost as if it has been roughed up by life itself, and yet it stands tall! Quite poetic, isn't it!

And I also love the touch of an Electrocardiogram (ECG) tracing that comes with it. Just like the voltage movements creating the up and down spikes on an ECG, ups and down and life are intertwined by destiny. Just as there will be no life when the ups and downs of the ECG tracing fades aways into the abyss, there is no Life without ups and down.

This cup remains a memoir, and constant reminder of what we've been through at Med School to call ourselves doctors, all the laughs and pain, friends made and lost along the way - all in a flash!

And someday when I grow old, and I will be relaxing at my front porch on a fine winter morning, sipping into my latte or an americano from my old, battered, worn out cup of coffee, maybe, just maybe, I will look back at life, with all its ups and downs and tell myself, They were totally worth it!

This was quite a fun prompt! So many possibilities. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it, as much as I enjoyed writing it! 😄

Behind the greatest successes are the most difficult battles. It fascinates me that you relate this incredible reflection over a cup of coffee. When I graduated as a civil engineer I also told myself that every drop of sweat was worth it. It certainly tends to be poetic.

Best regards!

Behind the greatest successes are the most difficult battles

Oh yes, absolutely! That's what we need to realise and accept. Once we understand the difficulties are just a part of growing up, it changes our approach to obstacles entirely.
