On Palm Sunday the Easter time begins for us. Traditionally, small palm bunches are consecrated in our churches and then the children walk around the house three times to bless the house. These small palm bunches then remain in the house for the whole year to keep the good blessing, while the old bunches are burned, the leave old things behind and renew life.
Such a palm bunch is rather small in ours and looks like this:
In addition, we have always had a larger Easter bouquet and how I put mine together is what I want to show you.
The palm branches for it are from the farmer's market, because we do not have such a large palm willow in the garden.
But all other branches I always get from the garden. There are enough beautiful bushes in the spring, which are already blooming. As you can see from the mighty roots, these two are already so old that I already cut branches from them for the Easter bush as a child. Bushes that my grandfather planted here a long time ago.
Now to assemble the bouquet I first lay all the branches in front of me so that the top tips are about what I imagine, then I cut the branches at the bottom to the right length.
Now I can start arranging them in the vase.
Starting best from the back to the front, so first the large branches.
In the process, I noticed that this white branch was too big and would fit better if I cut it into three smaller parts, which then fit very well.
After the bouquet was as I liked it, only a little of my Easter decoration was missing. These are traditionally one day painted Easter eggs, chicks, geese and Easter bunnies
And ready is my Easter bouquet, which conjures up the colors of spring and joy in the room.
My small consecrated palm bush I have decorated in the meantime with the duck in the wreath. This little bush will later go to a place on the shelf, where it will stay all year round.

Palmsonntag - Osterstrauch Tradition
Am Palmsonntag beginnt für uns die Oster Zeit. Traditionell werden bei uns kleine Palmbüschel in den Kirchen geweiht und danach laufen die Kinder drei mal um das Haus, um das Haus zu segnen. Diese kleinen Palmbüschel bleiben dann das ganze Jahr im Haus um den guten Segen zu bewahren, während die alten verbrannt werden.
So ein Palmbüschel ist bei unser eher klein und sieht so aus:
Zusätzlich haben wir aber immer schon einen größeren Oster Strauss gehabt und wie ich meinen heute zusammengestellt habe will ich gerne zeigen.
Die Palmzweige dafür sind vom Bauernmarkt, weil wir keine so große Palmweide im Garten haben. Aber alle anderen Zweige hole ich immer aus dem Garten. Da stehen im Frühjahr genügend schöne Buschen, die schon blühen. Wie man an den mächtigen Wurzeln sieht sind diese beiden sind schon so alt, dass ich schon als Kind von ihnen Zweige für den Osterstrauch geschnitten habe. Sträuche, die mein Großvater vor langer Zeit hier gepflanzt hat.
Um nun den Strauß zusammenzustellen lege ich zuerst alle Zweige vor mir auf, so dass die oberen Spitzen in etwa so sind, wie ich mir das vorstelle, danach schneide ich die Zweige unten auf die richtige Länge und schon kann ich beginnen, sie in die Vase zu arrangieren.
Beginnend am besten von hinten nach vorne, also zuerst die großen Zweige und wenn etwas nicht gut passt, einfach nochmal zurecht schneiden.
Nachdem der Strauß so war wie er mir gefiel, fehlte nur noch ein wenig von meiner Oster Dekoration. Diese sind traditionell zumeinst bemalene Ostereier, Kücken, Gänse und Osterhasen.
Und fertig is mein Oster Strauß, der die Farben des Frühlings und der Freude in jeden Raum zaubert.
Meinen kleinen geweihten Palmbusch habe ich einstweilen mit der Ente im Kranz dekoriert. Dieser kleine Busch kommt dann später an einen Platz im Regal, wo er das ganze Jahr über bleiben wird.
Das eigentliche Osterfest findet ja erst am kommenden Wochenende statt, aber bis dahin hat man schon einmal schöne Stimmung im Hause.
