A Walk to the Flagstone Bridge, Ashover, Derbyshire

in SublimeSunday3 years ago

One of my favourite villages in my county is Ashover. It has a real calm vibe to it and a strong sense of community spirit.

We found quite a few footpaths in the village, so we decided to take pot luck and choose the nearest one. We chose right because we soon came to a lovely old, flagstone bridge.

After passing some cottages and houses we came to sets of old tramlines in the road.

Next to the tramlines is a stone arch in the limestone rock face, the remnants of an old lime slaking kiln.

Apparently, Ashover were runners up in the Yorkshire TV Village Pump Competition in 1993! Think they've been dining out on it ever since.

We finished our walk at the All Saints Church. A good 2 hour walk.

Very nice walk!

I'd like to live there.

Wow! Hope you could make your dream come true in the near future.

Looks like a pretty village but I’m surprised there wasn’t a pub featured in your post. Normally these little villages have great locals serving some top nosh!

My fault. I'm not a drinker. Maybe, next time!

Always settle for the food and a soft drink. I can’t go anywhere without some grub 😃

One of my hobbies is eating .....
