For #sublimesunday instigated by @c0ff33a I popped down to my local lido to see if the swan's cygnets had hatched. Mrs Swan was still on the nest in her hideaway and Mr Swan was onguard. Unfortunately, they still hadn't arrived but it should be imminent!
Walking around the other side of the lido I did spot some cute coot chicks. I think they were about five in total. This little one was being fed.
I also saw another coot family nearby. They'd built a nest right next to the lido wall. I've never known them build next to the wall as it leaves them quite vulnerable, but so far so good.
Mrs Coot got off the nest briefly so it gave me an opportunity to see if she had any eggs.
I counted five eggs so I will keep popping down to the lido to see if they've hatched.
When I left Mrs Coot returned to the nest.
You do get out to some lovely places so thanks for sharing the great photos.
I did click on this at first as I thought it read, "I've just popped down to Lidl"!
The mind plays some funny tricks. Glad you had a lovely weekend :-)
Lol. I've just had to double check that I hadn't put Lidl. 😅
Waterfowls are so cute especially when you see families, and the mother protecting her little ones. I keep missing the opportunities to take photos. Just this morning there were a couple of swans mating right by the boat, and Cam beckoned to me to take a look. They stopped before I grabbed my camera, but they kept their elegance while mating. It was like watching a ballet duo dance 🤣
You must have more refined swans where you are. Usually, females look as though they're being drowned! I do like this time of the year where you see lots of young ones. I have to count them every day to make sure they're all ok.🙂
Haha! I guess these two swans were exceptional.
It's so cute you get to count them. I only encounter family ducks at locks sometimes, but they move away fast to avoid the encounter with boaters.
They're so adorable:)
I'm lucky enough to live across from two ponds. You've got a whole canal. 😊
Oh, but it's nice being by a pond too. You're really lucky. I think being close to any body of water is good for your wellbeing.😊
Oh definitely!
😊
