We decided to go and hunt for poetry in the countryside. The ‘Sites of Meaning’ project, was the idea of the local parish of Middleton and Smerrill to mark the New Millennium in 2000. The project was to encourage the villagers, craftspeople, and local artists to create poetry and have the words engraved around the parish. Source
There are 17 inscriptions to find in all. In the village of Middleton-by-Youlgreave in the memorial garden, we found the main stone with all the 17 inscriptions on it. Each inscription points people in the direction of its location. There are clues online, though, so they're quite easy to find.
We found the first inscription which is a reference from the bible on a stone seat in the wall. It read, "In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength" (Isaiah 30:15).
Very close by on the kerb of the road we found two inscriptions.
"Down the dale feel the wet soggy dogs which have just come out of the water".
"He's beautiful, golden, white fur, wild, free, ready to come and go as he pleases".
We had a look around the rest of the village as it was very quaint looking. It's always good to see the old iconic British red telephone box still in situi.
One of the two lovely old wells in the village.
There was an interesting old post box next to where people can purchase free range eggs.
Near the recreation ground, there was a bronze plaque erected by the Parish Council in 1995 in 1995 of the 50th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Sadly, a Wellington Bomber crashed at nearby Smerrill on the 21st of January, 1944, killing six Royal Australian Air Force crew members.
It is surprising what you can find in one small area, the good and the sad.

What a cool place! Your countryside and its moss remind me of where I live, although we have a lot more trees.
Does that old telephone booth really have a defibrillator in it? That's such a clever idea.
Hi, yes the old phone boxes are repurposed. They usually have a defibrillator in them or books to borrow like a mini library. I've also seen fruit and veg being donated in them. You can also buy them for your garden. The good ones go for a few thousand pounds though.
That's so neat!
Must take a lot of effort to find all of them.
We are doing a few at a time. It's a good excuse to get out.

Very interesting walk. Love the old trees and rock walls. Nature is still sleeping and the poetry is too few.
I really need some sun now. More poetry to come!
We have too much heat all of a sudden. Wish I could share some hot sunshine with you!
That would be good!
