Squirrel, Snowdrops, and a Robin: A Walk on the Wild Side of the Graveyard

It was sleeting this morning as I set off on my morning walk. Will the sun ever appear again? It seems such a long time since we had nice weather. As I walked through the graveyard the snowdrops were all out. Their appearance is a reminder that spring is on the way, even if the current bad weather doesn't suggest it. I can't believe such delicate flowers can withstand the cold conditions.

On my walk, I usually encounter several squirrels scampering about the graveyard. However, today was different; I only spotted one squirrel. Squirrels, unlike other animals, do not hibernate, but they do become less active during the winter months. This allows them to conserve energy when food is scarce.

On the path back from my walk, I entered a small wooded area, I was a bit curious as to who "MD" was and why people feel the need to carve their initials in the bark of trees.

The little robin darted away just as I was about to take a photo. Typically, robins are among the most co-operative of birds for photography, often staying long enough to get a nice shot. However, this particular one had other plans in mind. It was just a little too quick for me.

I haven’t seen much fungi lately, so it was a nice surprise to spot these. They are great decomposers, breaking down organic matter and contributing to the soil fertility.

Just as I was near to home, I found a painted rock with dalmations on it. These rocks are intentially left to brighten someone's day. You have the option to either keep them or re-hide them. I decided to take it home with me so that I could hide it again in a different location.

This post is for #sublimesunday and #beautifulsunday which is initiated by @c0ff33a and @ace108.

Glad to see the creatures bringing the sings of spring. That rock was really nicely done.

Their art work puts mine to shame.🙂

I like all your walks. Solitary walk with no people around. You could commune with nature at your own pace.
That painted rock is quite neat. Someone will find it in the future.

The rock has already been found and moved on. It brightened someone's day. 🙂

I wish we had this kind of tradition!

You could start one off. You don't have to have any artistic skills. Mine are very simple. 😁

Local people wouldn’t get it! They probably would ignore these stones. I might learn to paint on small stones one day. It would be good to learn to be artistic and use the other side of my brain!
