For this week's #sublimesunday, as inspired by @c0ff33a, I headed over to the Blue Lake. What's Blue Lake? It's a backwater area of the Mississippi River. It more or less looks like a lake and allows folks to kayak, boat, fish, and even swim in less treacherous river water. It also freezes over well in the winter, allowing cross-country skiers and ice fishers access to the river.
To get to the area, one must walk a short kayak/canoe access point :
With the water lily pads about, it was a fantastic mix of blue and green. Clouds high above...reflections on the water, and plenty of green. We're going through a bit of a drought here, but fortunately, it's still green...
Anytime I can get near the Mississippi River, I feel fortunate. There is some talk about diverting these waters south of us to the West; part of me would recommend that those who live in the dry West move here instead. Ah, but then the beauty of this place and the Driftless would be more known to more people. No more secrets!
Blue Lake, yet another little secret spot literally 30 feet off of a major highway. You never know what you'll find in this area of the globe.
That's it for this #sublimesunday post. I hope everyone else out there had a spectacular Sunday too. With the another week in place, I hope to get back on track with Hive posts and share whatever beauty I can while out and about. Thanks, as always, for checking out my work!
Aw man, I am so jealous. I have yet to get an opportunity to get onto the water. Looks like a good day!
