RE: Mastering the Fog: How I Turn Gloom into Art Instead of Constantly Complaining About It

in PhotoFeed20 days ago

Yeah, this kind of fog really adds to this type of photo's! Color settings make a big difference indeed! It used to be the same in the old film photography. Using a roll of Fuji Velvia for instance would render a picture like the thumbnail one, very heavily saturated colors. Kodak Portra would render more (skin-)neutral colors. HP rolls would go for the softer colors. The nice thing is, that you don't need 5 camera's now to shoot that one picture with 5 different styles and rolls :-)

It very much does, yes! Playing with color setting is a whole other world that I haven't even begun to explore yet! That's fascinating to hear about the qualities of each type of film, I had no idea! Yeah, photographic technology has come a long way! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

The most funny thing about photographic technology is that it still trying mimic the old film and darkroom techniques :-) Which is a good thing in fact…
A lot of the things that most people do in Lightroom of Photoshop, are things that were done in the darkroom as well (or by selecting the correct film for the desired result.

Yes indeed :-) Even removing parts or objects from photo's was already done in the darkroom...

Oh, interesting, I didn't know that. Apparently nothing is new under the sun in photography either! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

I wouldn’t say nothing, but large part isn’t. But, especially now with AI, it has become very easy, whereas in the darkroom days, it was really an artform on its own (actually, I still see it as that, photoshop is a different artform).

Yes, true, there is always something new, but most things are just new iterations or expressions of the same basic idea. The digital stuff, AI included, does have its place, and it can be used to create some incredible images. I'd definitely say that it is an art form, even if it's one that's practiced less now. 😁🙏💚✨🤙
