RE: A Sublime Sunday Spent Enjoying My Flowers

Pretty hydrangeas. With hydrangeas the hues come out the more the soil PH is leaning towards acidic or alkaline. More blues with acidic and more towards pink with alkaline. Your soil have a good amount of organic material? That could be tilting it towards acidic and hampering the pink. But it looks like theyre getting their colours so it all good.

I knew the soil had something to do with the colors, I think the pink has only come out in two of the last five years - same soil, lol. I know those blueish-purples hydrangeas are really beautiful as well. I did feed them some plant food a couple of times this year, I guess that helped.

Plant food will help with the number of blooms it produces. And if it has micronutrients nthe intensity or richness of the hues. But for hydrangeas the actual colour they turn besides genetics is dependent on soil ph.

All that matters though is that your hydrangeas look pretty and youre happy with them.

I know a guy from the uk that for some reason hates hydrangeas. I cant think of why. But his wife loves them and to spite him plants them everywhere. He often writes to me to complain that theyre taking over his yard.
