A Special Afternoon

Yesterday afternoon, just before sunset, we went out for a walk with my dog, Falkor, as we usually do. The afternoons are often quite hot, and my wife and I enjoy watching the clouds. She loves photographing them, but this time she decided not to, as she didn’t find them particularly beautiful. Still, I decided to take some photos myself.

It was a truly special day, not just because of the walk but also because we recently rescued some kittens from the street. These little ones, noisy and dependent on their absent mother, led us to the decision to take care of them. Raising them has been a constant challenge since they require almost the same attention as a baby. We waited for them to fall asleep before leaving them alone for a moment to enjoy our usual walk.

We got into the car and headed to a spot we visit often. There, we noticed how much the vegetation had grown. There’s a drainage canal that, at first glance, looks like a river, though its water is visibly polluted. Interestingly, despite its toxicity, the surroundings are visually appealing. We heard a story about someone who once went into the canal to rescue a dog. They managed to save it, but the person had to spend nearly six months hospitalized due to exposure to the chemicals in the water. This canal connects to the industrial park in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, but unfortunately, no one speaks out about its environmental impact. Even so, nature seems to persist: vegetation grows along the sides and sometimes even obstructs the canal.

After our walk, we headed back home, watching people return from work along the way. It was a beautiful day, full of small moments that reminded us of the beauty of life. Every day has something special to offer, and that day we appreciated the good things we have: the sky, nature, Falkor’s company, the kittens, and the peace of being together. In the end, that’s what matters most: finding beauty in the everyday and the simple things.
