I am conscious that I have not done a drumming video in a while. I have not been working on many exercises or pieces lately, but I do have a play now and then. Doing posts about it ought to be an incentive.
I was not even planning to post today, but I was watching the percussion final of the BBC Young Musician competition and I got inspired. These are young people between about 15 and 18 who already have achieved levels of musicianship I may never match. The variety of musical styles was also impressive with jazz, classical, rock and some very 'out there' pieces.
Inspiration is a large part of the musical process. I can get inspiration for writing songs or to cover songs by others or just to pick up an instrument and play something. I may have picked up something about this rhythm from one of the pieces I heard, but I popped into my head and I had to try playing it, just to see if I could. It does help when you can play what your mind comes up with and it is not always the case.
So this is an improvisation around what I thought of that features a couple of hits on the floor tom each time around, although I did skip some for variety.

Good stuff man, I'm glad to see another of your drum videos up here and you're right, music is all about inspiration, we have to all take it from wherever we find it, and jump at the oppurtunity to use it when it comes!
It's amazing seeing musicians who just leave you in shock, but, the cool thing about it is that we don't get disheartened and give up, we keep trucking forward. I'm not and never will be the best Bassist in the world, but, I've had alot of fun since I've been playing it!

BEER.I have been seeing some pretty impressive videos of kids drumming lately too. It's amazing how talented some people are at such a young age. I think it might be fun to be a jazz or blues drummer. I could probably handle that speed. I'd still need to practice a ton to get the rust off.
It's scary how good some kids are. They had to put in the practice though. I hope I can find some context to play with a band eventually.

Hitting things can be very satisfying and is a good way to relieve stress. Trying to play complex beats takes your mind off other things.
Wish I had the coordination to play drums as it's maybe my favourite instruments! Keep it up man, you're doing well. Look forward to seeing you progress!
I suspect most people could do it to some extent. I'll still a beginner really. I find it an interesting brain exercise as well as being about music.
