Some linear drumming for Monday Drumday

Last night I was watching a cool documentary on Netflix called Count Me In. It is all about drummers and talks to many famous ones including Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Stewart Copeland (The Police), Ian Paice (Deep Purple) and Ben Thatcher (Royal Blood). It covers a fair bit of the history of modern drumming with lots of performances. As somone who is trying to learn the basics it was very inspiring.

I still have a long way to go. I need to do a lot more lessons and playing along with songs to find my groove. A good teacher I have found on Youtube is Stephen Taylor. He has lots of beginner lessons and explains things well. Tonight I tried one on 'linear drumming', which is new to me. The idea is that you just hit one thing at a time. That sounds easy, but the rhythm he teaches throws you off by moving around where some of the drums are used. I have only been playing it for a few minutes, but it does sound good. My cheap electronic kit helps a little in that all hits have the same volume, but then you cannot be subtle with it. I am tempted to upgrade to something better. A full electronic kit would be nice, but they take up space and a real kit would not be popular with the rest of the family.

Here is the lesson if you want to have a go.

I was thinking of you this morning. I look constantly on this AU site called OzBargain where you can post bargains you've seen and today there was an electronic drumkit. It's from the UK but free shipping to AU which is why it was on the AU site.

$430 AUD is nothing to sneeze at, but I looked at some reviews and almost got sucked in myself.

Not spamming, just thought you might be interested. Nice playing BTW! 😁

I am quite tempted to get something like that. I will keep working on my skills and see how it goes in a few months. I know stuff can be expensive in Oz, so that does look like a bargain.
