Moving to another country is a big step. Unless it is for reasons of force majeure (such as health problems or war) I think one should have the opportunity to choose the country to move to, so that you are happy with the things you will gain and the things you are leaving behind don't weigh too heavily on you. Imagining myself in such a scenario, one of the best options I would have would be England. Why? Let me tell you, please.
Language. It's English. Well, although I'm not completely fluent, I understand some basic aspects of it. I would be happy to perfect it there as it is spoken correctly, with its exemplary pronunciation and idioms. Elsewhere, which is also the national language, it is influenced by other languages, foreign or not. Being obliged to use it for the basics of daily life means that one can exercise it regularly and advance in its mastery.
Climate. England does not have as hot a climate as here in the tropics. Yes, the winters are very cold, but I think that is something I would be willing to experience. I know that the capital, London, has a mild climate, with frequent rain. But nothing is stopped by that, people adapt and have suitable clothes for those occasions. A bit depressing the kind of light? Well, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe.
Football. The country has the best football league in the world, in my opinion. London has no less than seven teams in the top flight. So maybe taking public transport (surface or underground) is enough to get you from one stadium to another. I like the idea of having that option at weekends and watching good football live. Hopefully I'll have a good job that will allow me to pay for tickets frequently, and then visit a restaurant or café for something tasty and different.
Afternoon tea. When there is something to snack on in the afternoon it is something that contributes to the happiness of the day. Well, what could be better than living in a place that is cultural! Is it just tea? Maybe, but surely it can be accompanied by other delicious things. So I think it's great that there is a good chance every day to share something with someone, whether you are invited or you invite someone else. Surely there will be many options to taste at that moment, and therefore, the prices may not be high, both on the street and to prepare them at home.
Diversity. It is well known that London has a high percentage of non-UK residents. This makes for cultural variety in neighbourhoods and shopping areas. This affects things such as food and daily life. Starting out as a foreigner in any place shouldn't be easy, but in places like this you won't be the only one and you might find someone who empathises with you and can give you a hand.
For this and much more, I think England is a good place I would want to live if I had the chance. Its natural landscapes, architecture and history are exuberant. I would be willing to travel and learn in them, not forgetting to drive on the left side of the road when driving a car. The gastronomy is something that also appeals to me and there will surely be opportunities to taste it. What about you? Which country appeals to you?
Mudarse a otro país es un gran paso. A menos que sea por razones de fuerza mayor (como por ejemplo problemas de salud o una guerra) creo que uno debería tener la oportunidad de elegir el país al cual mudarse, y de esa forma estar contento con las cosas que se ganarán y que las cosas que estás dejando atrás no te pesen demasiado. Imaginándome en un escenario así, una de las mejores opciones que tendría sería Inglaterra. ¿Por qué? Deja que te lo cuente, por favor.
Idioma. Es el inglés. Pues, aunque no lo domino completamente, entiendo algunos aspectos básicos de él. Estaría contento de perfeccionarlo en ese lugar puesto que allí se habla correctamente, con su pronunciación y modismos ejemplares. En otros lugares que también es el idioma nacional está influenciado por otros lenguajes, extranjeros o no. Estar obligado a usarlo para los aspectos básicos del diario vivir hace de que uno pueda ejercitarlo regularmente y avanzar en su dominio.
Clima. Inglaterra no tiene un clima tan caluroso como aquí en el trópico. Eso sí, los inviernos son bien fríos, pero creo que es algo que estaría dispuesto a experimentar. Sé que la capital, Londres, tiene un clima templado, con lluvias frecuentes. Pero nada se detiene por eso, la gente se adapta y tiene ropa adecuada para esas ocasiones. ¿Un poco deprimente el tipo de luz? Bueno, no sé qué decirte. Tal vez.
Fútbol. El país tiene la mejor liga de fútbol del mundo, a mi criterio. Londres tiene nada menos que siete equipos en la primera división. Así que quizás con tomar el transporte público (superficial o subterráneo) baste para trasladarte de un estadio a otro. Me gusta la idea de tener esa opción los fines de semana y ver en vivo buen fútbol. Ojalá tenga un buen trabajo que me permita costear entradas con frecuencia, y luego, visitar algún restaurant o café para degustar algo sabroso y diferente.
Te de la tarde. Cuando hay algo para merendar en las tardes es algo que contribuye a la felicidad del día. Pues, que mejor que ¡vivir en un lugar que sea algo cultural! ¿Es solo un té? Tal vez, pero seguramente se podrá acompañar de otras cosas deliciosas. Así que me parece genial que haya altas probabilidades todos los días de compartir algo con alguien, bien sea que te inviten o que invites a otro. Seguramente habrá muchas opciones para degustar en ese momento, y por ende, puede que los precios no sean elevados, tanto en la calle como para prepararlos en la casa.
Diversidad. Es sabido el alto porcentaje de habitantes de Londres que no pertenecen al Reino Unido. Eso hace de que haya variedad cultural en los vecindarios y zonas comerciales. Eso afecta cosas como la gastronomía y trato cotidiano. Empezar como extranjero en cualquier lugar no debe ser sencillo, pero en lugares así no serás el único y tal vez encuentres quien sienta empatía contigo y pueda echarte una mano.
Por esto y muchas cosas más, creo que Inglaterra es un buen lugar en el que quisiera vivir si tuviera la oportunidad. Sus paisajes naturales, arquitectura e historia son exuberantes. Estaría dispuesto a recorrerlos y aprender en ellos. ¡Ah! Sin olvidar que debo de circular por el lado izquierdo cuando maneje un automóvil. La gastronomía es algo que también me atrae y seguramente habrá sus oportunidades para degustarla. ¿Y tú? ¿Qué país te atrae?
