Surrogacy

in Hive Learnersyesterday

I have been thinking a lot about the topic for some time now. It even made me read more about it. Surrogacy is an act where a couple decides to allow another woman to have a pregnancy and deliver their child safely for them. This might be for some reason known to the couples.

I haven’t experienced surrogacy in real life. I have heard of adoption but I think surrogacy is not something that common but I am sure it happens.

The first thing that came to my thought about surrogacy is who will own the eggs that will be used for it. Is it that the sperm will just be gotten from the couple and then used for the other woman and then the couples have the child that comes from it?

If that should be the case then I would say it's a risky move. I see it just like adopting a woman’s child. But when I read further about it I realized there are two methods to it. There is the gestation method and the traditional method.

The gestation method is where the eggs and sperm of the couples are collected then the woman will help carry the pregnancy and deliver the baby. The traditional system has it that the sperm will be used and the egg of the woman who will carry the baby, not that of the couple, but it must be that they have a close relationship with each other.

The first method is still considerable for the fact that it erupted from artificial mating from the couples. The lady is just like an incubator that will hold it till maturity. With this, we can boldly say the child is for the couples and of their own lineage and blood though with a mix of the surrogate blood too.

As for the second, that's not considered to be pure. This is because there is no evidence that the couples have their child from their direct lineage and blood. The surrogate is a part of the child and it is just like adopting her child with a half lineage.

I don't know if what I am thinking is on the right path. But I just see surrogacy as something complicated. You can't tell what will come from the choice you made. Though there will be some form of strong agreement. Because as humans we can do and undo.

I discussed it with a friend and I was like what if the surrogate gave birth to a great child? Won't she feel regretful at some point and feel like having the child as her own? Or claim that the child came from her. It’s something she can later leak out the secret agreement between them.

And what if she gave birth to a stubborn and bad child? Then won't the couple push the blame on her?! Maybe blame her bloodline or lineage, or just blame her for birthing the wrong child for them.

Surrogacy might seem like a kind act, but it is seriously going to help a lot of people who are childless to have a child. But we just have to take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of it. Whichever weighs 🥺. And from my point of view, the risk from surrogacy is more than the merit from it.

Childbirth is from God and it’s natural. We can't force it on ourselves. It's just like trying to determine and change the fate of the child while pregnant. If it's a boy, then it's a boy, and if it's a girl, there is nothing to be done about it.

I've heard about it, and in society today it is common surprisingly. A child will grow up without having a father. This is base on the disadvantages I noticed about it. Thank you for this write up.

Super interesting your point of view, the truth that I had not thought about that if the child is sick or prone to being a bad person, the woman who takes him in his belly is blamed. It is a great point, in any case, I believe that the surrogacy depends on the beliefs and ethics of each person, and on a personal level, I think it would prefer to buy a clone, rather than adopt a child or bring it with surrogacy, I know that my choice is controversial, but I believe that every decision of this type must be respected, in the end, the surrogacy depends on those involved in it.

You said it all. We all have our choices and dependents on the situation we find ourselves. Life can be so challenging that we get to take hard decisions. Everyone surely has a reason behind theirs.

Your thoughts are in the right part, the only thing you are omitting is that there is legal agreement between a surrogate and parents of the child. So whatever the child becomes in the future no one can do anything about it or blame any part for it.

Yeah. That’s right but don’t people go against legal agreement that in the end the child we began to feel he wasn’t from his biological parents

Before having a surrogate, you are required to know about their medical history and that of their family and most couples even want to go to the extent of building a relationship with the surrogate to know the kind of person they are. In the end, they become more like family because of the kid.

Hmmn. That’s a better way.
