Larva of a large birch sawfly or birch leafhopper. It belongs to the order Hymenoptera (this group also includes bees, wasps, bumblebees, ants, etc.). Surprisingly, the larva looks like a butterfly caterpillar, which is why it is a false caterpillar, its size reaches 4.5 cm.

The female lays up to 200 eggs on the inside of the leaf, which she folds beforehand. The larvae are active at night, feeding exclusively on birch leaves. Also interesting is that in case of danger can shoot a predator hemolymph at a distance of up to 20 cm, which she tried to do with me.
